Navigating Facility Upgrades: Ensuring Volleyball's Place in Queenstown's Future. At Shared Services, one of the key ways we support our clients is by stepping in to fill the gaps where resources or expertise might be missing. Whether it's through event coordination, strategic planning, or advocacy, we ensure that organisations like Volleyball New Zealand affliated regional volleyball associations remain front and centre when local councils make decisions and are looking to incorporate volleyball courts into long term plans. Tonight, we had the privilege of attending a meeting hosted by the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) sport and recreation manager Simon Battrick to discuss the future of indoor courts in Queenstown. During the meeting, we were invited along with others to contribute via a working group, a crucial opportunity to ensure that volleyball's growing Queenstown community is not overlooked in these exciting developments. This is a perfect example of how we assist our clients—by actively engaging with councils, providing a voice in key discussions, and advocating for the inclusion of sports like volleyball in the planning stages of new facilities. As we work closely with our clients, our goal is to ensure that they are always front of mind when critical infrastructure decisions are made, paving the way for growth and sustainability in their communities. There's a lot to unpack here, but an acknowledgement of injustices is a good start. Many sports do not make it to this step. I'd like to acknowledge first and foremost all of the athletes (past and present) who have endured unsafe environments in their sport. I'm grateful for their spoken and unspoken contributions to raising awareness of the culture of normalised violence and abuse. This should not be the reality for any athlete or sport participant. I do note this was, as many reviews are, a very targeted, historical focus. My challenge to everyone is to recognise that nothing magical changes without a strong investment in change and subsequent actions. Abuse in sport is not only a historical wrong to be acknowledged. Creating safe spaces in sport requires ongoing, intentional actions.

This past weekend was nothing short of extraordinary as my daughter's volleyball team soared to new heights at a thrilling 3-day tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. As a parent, witnessing the evolution of this team has been nothing short of remarkable. But this weekend was different. It was as if every player had tapped into an unseen reservoir of heart and teamwork, propelling them to victory with a sense of unity that left me in awe. The journey of club volleyball is undeniably a roller coaster of emotions, a sentiment shared by many parents and players alike. Yet, amidst the highs and lows, there lies a profound lesson in perseverance and camaraderie. Much like in our professional careers, success on the volleyball court is not merely the result of talent, but rather a culmination of hard work, dedication, and effective leadership. I am immensely grateful for our coach, who not only understands when to push the team beyond their limits but also possesses the foresight to strategically place each player in positions where they can excel. This weekend's triumph serves as a poignant reminder that when passion meets purpose and when individuals come together as a cohesive unit, there are #NoLimits as to what can be achieved. As parents, we are not only witnessing our children grow as athletes but also as resilient, tenacious individuals prepared to tackle any challenge that comes their way. When you're executing a project, every moment you spent dwelling on something you are not in control of, is a distraction that sucks your energy away. We had only two months to climb the world ranking from #73 to #23 in order to qualify for the #Olympics - there were 50 other teams ahead of us, who had played the sport longer, had more funding, coaching, and we had never beaten before... what allowed us to surpass them, against all odds, is this commitment we made to focus all of our available energy ONLY on the things we could control. We are usually are biggest competitor. We start focusing on things that are out of our control vs being present and moving through our process which is what’s going to get us close is if not to the outcome we desire. However, there is a process to understanding and developing the skills to be able to do these things. Generally someone can’t just tell you all of this and you go, oh ok, right. Let me change that. These thoughts and way of moving through things is embedded in us and society. In a relatively short amount of time you can learn how to get out of your own way, understand how to let go of what’s out of your control, and be present so you can move though the process.

The pro women’s volleyball league won’t launch until November, but it secured Tonal’s first league partnership. Set for success. ????? ?? This integrated partnership isn’t just unique for women’s sports, but for sports leagues in general. Since LOVB already has 1.1K youth volleyball clubs across the country, Tonal will be able to support athlete workouts and earn brand awareness before the pro league launch. Additionally, Tonal will run “Family Workout Nights” at LOVB youth clubs for its members and their families. ??? ??
