Easy to moderate a panel when the panelists are all not only experts in their fields, but great human beings as well!
Last week, President & CEO Nella McOsker participated in a panel entitled “Planning Downtown LA’s Future: DTLA 2040” alongside panelists Craig Weber, Principal Planner for Los Angeles City Planning and Jenny Chavez, Senior Vice President of LA Tourism. The panel was moderated by Areen Ibranossian, CEO of Chief Strategies and LANI and CCA Board Member. Thank you Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI) for inviting CCA to take part in your Community Forum!

Over the past week I've been working with Alan Kleinfeld of Arrive Management Group as we finalize the description for the session he'll be delivering next month at Northstar's Destination Midwest event. The session topic? "Ensuring Your Attendees Feel Safe During Times of Heightened Political Tension." Then this weekend happened, a more intense ratcheting up than we'd expected. Clearly, as event professionals we're going to need a lot of safe spaces to have these discussions. Alan brings a really interesting perspective to the conversation, having been a meetings professional who went into law enforcement and spent half a dozen years on the police force full-time. He worked at large events and delivered sensitivity training on the force, among a wide range of other duties. He and I have been discussing the many different facets of attendee safety and the way these all factor together given the aggressive public discourse and heightened tensions — even for events that wouldn't seem overtly political. With or without access to an extensive security team — much less the Secret Service — how can planners approach safety? What questions should they be asking themselves — even when they might assume they have a "friendly" audience of like-minded individuals? Looking forward to having these crucial conversations, at Destination Midwest and beyond. Want to join us in person at Midwest? More info is below, with more details on Alan's session to be added shortly. #eventsafety #politicaltension #eventprofs #meetingprofs Northstar Meetings Group #northstarmeets #attendeesafety

As we are in the midst of developing King Street Aparthotel, in the heart of Stirling, it is very encouraging to read these VisitScotland survey results.? ? Highlights for us include -? ? - Some of the key motivators to visiting Scotland were cited as being its history and culture, attractions, ancestry, and food and drink – all of which can be found on our doorstep. ?? ? - 30% of respondents were travelling as family groups – which we can accommodate with the inclusion of our larger than normal family rooms. ?? ? - 80% are very likely to visit Scotland again – who we hope to meet upon their return. ?? ? - 71% rated their experience of Scotland a 9 or 10 out of 10 – confirming our decision to renovate 45 King Street, Stirling, into an Aparthotel. ?? ? Well done Scotland, we can’t wait to open our doors. ? #VisitScotland #ScottishTourism #KingStreetAparthotel #Stirling #45KingStreet Neil Munday https://lnkd.in/dce8WKfj

Update from the Latest Council Meeting At the meeting in June, Council agreed on a series of actions to ensure British Skydiving has a Board of Directors that is balanced, skilled and diverse. This included agreeing to a recommendation to members that the number of Independent Non-executive Directors (INEDs) should be increased from two to four, a significant decision. But there was one other significant Governance Recommendation that we didn’t have time to give due consideration to at that meeting. So, on 30 July, we held an additional meeting (known as an extraordinary meeting) to cover that outstanding item. At last week’s extraordinary meeting, we considered a substantial piece of work looking at the appointment processes for British Skydiving’s Non-executive Directors (NEDs), approaches taken by other NGBs and good governance recommendations. After much deliberation, the Directors agreed that the best way to align the process for appointing NEDs and the need to ensure Directors have the skills, expertise and attributes required to deliver the Strategic Plan and perform as an effective leadership team is to move to a system of application and selection for all NED roles, rather than the current system of election. We see this as the best option for reliably securing the skills and expertise needed and as likely to draw in a more diverse pool of candidates. This would be a big change for British Skydiving, and the Board still has a good deal of work to do before we can bring it to members for their consideration. So, in the meantime, we’ll share further updates as the work progresses. Mary (Chair of British Skydiving)
