Traveling and finding off the beaten path destinations, spending time understanding local culture, norms, customs, taboos and overall life of the people is one of most effective ways of truly embracing a global mindset. These experiences open up our minds to develop a fresh perspective, removing biases and prejudice, and steering strong emotions such as compassion and empathy - which are important components of one's leadership acumen. A recent trip I took with my family was no exception. While visiting new places, not only did I spend quality time with my family, but I also applied myself to understanding the local culture and people. It was a great trip as I ventured out and engaged with various small businesses operators such as street vendors, boat tour operators, show and restaurant staff. We had meaningful conversations that stemmed from their life experiences. At Eaton, we continuously focus on developing a global mindset as we respect individual differences and unique perspectives. I put lot of thought into the people that I work with as I strive to understand their culture, beliefs and values. I believe traveling and engaging with the locals play a role in helping me to demonstrate empathy and understanding with my team while respecting our differences. It makes deep connections and builds a highly motivated team that drives results and works together to meet larger organizational goals. ????This is me all happy, content and back to work this Monday after an amazing holiday in the north of Spain. I love to be outdoors and active. It was a bit of a gamble whether being surrounded by mountains and amazing hiking and biking trails, in combination with a 4,5 year old, would work out. Or would lead to a lot of frustration on both sides. Luckily it worked out great! ??No - I could not do the most challenging hikes I would have done on my own with my partner. ??And No - I did not break any Strava records (although having a electric bike helped a bit;)..). ????♀?But oh Yes! - Lucas did his first downhill hike and mountain-biking in the mountains. And it was such a joy to see him experiencing new things and adventures, push his boundaries and be superproud of himself afterwards. It reminded me of this leadership quote by Jack Welch, which -in my eyes- can also be applied to parenting: “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” And the fun thing is, by growing others, you yourself grow as well - because it was definitely a new experience for me to guide Lucas alongside the cliff edges and keep my head cool:). #personaldevelopment #leadershipdevelopment #newexperiences

Travel has always been a passion of mine, and I’ve been fortunate to work and live in different countries around the world. "You'll never catch me on a cruise ship" ??? Never say never, right? When we were planning our time out to go travelling in 2022 - Alaska was high on the wishlist. YouTube was my favourite source of planning inspiration and a cruise seemed the best option. Seeing the landscape in an incredible way and visiting places only accessible by sea ?? So, we booked it! 7 days from Vancouver to Seward with Celebrity Cruises and it was ace! I'm now converted...and we'll do another sometime. What did I love about it: ? We'd been living out of a suitcase for 3 weeks at this point and only been in the same place for 3 days max - unpacking for a whole week!!!! ?? ? Really lovely to wake up somewhere new every morning. ? Comfy beds with an incredible view of a magical place. ? Choosing the pace you want. ??
