Great News! Would you believe that this beautiful house remodel did not need Planning Permission? This little bungalow in Botley fell under the Small Homes in the Countryside Policy for Winchester Council, which meant that it could only be extended by 20% of its original footprint. Given its tiny size, this would have not given our client much additional space at all…HOWEVER this little house had remained untouched for MANY years, it was actually not habitable when our client purchased it, and it still had its Permitted Development rights. Well, this meant that they could extended up to half of the width of the main house to the side, 3m to the rear of the house, a porch can be added, AND a wrap-around dormer to create a master suite in the roof…COOL OR WHAT?! Heres my thoughts on this one! This house clearly used to be a single family house, it looks like it was converted properly to a 2 unit though many years ago. The large attic space attaches to the top floor apartment which is a big selling point as it can be used for storage space or maybe even a makeshift extra bedroom, it just can’t technically be considered living space as there’s only 1 way to leave. The original staircase is another touch that shows this used to be a single family and though I didn’t show it in the video there was some stained glass in the house too. As you guys know I love front porches so this was a big plus, and the parking pad had newer concrete too. All in all there’s some solid features here, I will say I’m not as big of a fan of the dropped ceilings but those can actually be swapped out to more appealing tiles if you’d like, and the kitchen upstairs though was nice was a bit small.
