A few months ago, I stumbled upon a job posting for a customer experience role at Lounge . I applied with excitement, thinking this could be my first step into customer service in corporate. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the role. I felt torn, but instead of giving up, I decided to dig deeper into what customer service could offer me. Through resilience and exploration, I realized that customer service wasn’t just a role, it was a foundational skill that opens doors to countless opportunities. A conversation with someone in tech sales further solidified this as Technology sales has been a passion of mine. They shared how their experience in customer service gave them a strong advantage in understanding customer needs and building relationships. This inspired me to look at customer service as a gateway, not just a destination. With a growing interest in FinTech and financial services, I knew I wanted to blend my passion for technology and finance with a customer-facing role. After persistence and focus, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve now joined NatWest Group in partnership with Firstsource as a Customer Service Representative! Tackling Overwhelming Backlogs: Lessons from managing the Endearment Campaign Desk. When I stepped into the role of shift manager for the Endearment Desk at Sterling's contact center, I faced a challenge: a significant backlog of customer complaints. While it was an immense task, it also presented a huge opportunity to make a difference, and i did just that, reducing the backlog and improving customer satisfaction in just 3 months. Here’s how my team and I approached this: 1. Motivating the Team: I made it a priority to create a positive environment where agents felt supported and clear on their targets. 2. Streamlining Processes: I introduced bulk SMS for handling common complaints, which helped us prioritize complex cases and respond more efficiently. 3. Equipping the Team: I developed scripts to help agents manage customer interactions better, ensuring smooth and consistent resolutions. 4. Promoting Flexibility: By advocating for work-from-home flexibility, we increased focus and productivity, which in turn sped up our response times. It is important to note that this was during the presidential elections, so remote work was not just a productivity enhancement but also a security measure for our team. By continuously monitoring our Net Promoter Score (NPS), we worked to convert dissatisfied customers into loyal promoters. It was a team effort, and I’m proud of what we accomplished together. I am grateful to Sterling Bank for providing me with the opportunity to showcase my leadership and problem-solving skills in such a supportive environment.
