I love this organization for so many important reasons. 1. 70% of domestic violence survivors (families) stay when a pet is involved. Why? For so many of us, our pets are truly family. The reality is that most DV programs do their best to help humans but haven’t had the ability / resources to help animals. If you leave, the only option is to put your pet into the SPCA for 2 weeks. Who can create a new life in 2 weeks? 2. They are first responders when we have hurricanes, tornadoes, natural disasters. These events have an impact on people - but there is also a significant impact on animals. Most are stranded and unable to survive - not because people don’t care…just because it’s survival.
