January 6, 2025: A new regulation has been made specifying the circumstances under which the Minister of Natural Resources (“Minister”) may issue an order to make a permitting decision in place of a conservation authority or undertake a review of a conservation authority permitting decision. One part of the new regulation sets out the following additional requirements related to the use of the Minister’s review power: The Minister may conduct a review of a conservation authority permit decision only if, in the opinion of the Minister, the proposed development activity or other activity pertains to or supports one of the following matters of provincial interest: -The provision of housing -The provision of community services such as education long-term care, public health, recreation, security and safety or socio-cultural activities -The provision of infrastructure, including communication, transportation, waste management, electrical power, energy, sewage and water services and systems -The provision of employment opportunities through the establishment of manufacturing, industrial, agricultural, commercial or agricultural enterprises -Any other matter that, in the opinion of the Minister, is in the provincial interest #ontario #regulation #onpoli #energy #infrastructure

https://lnkd.in/gpP4xdT3 EPA bans lead pipes in drinking water systems. Drinking water systems must identify and replace all lead water supply pipes within 10 years. This also has a strong component to environmental justice, since many antiquated pipes are concentrated in urban areas.

After months of negotiations, the #Climatebill finally passed both branches of the Massachusetts legislature, and is awaiting the Governor's signature. ?? The bill is focused on accelerating our buildout of renewable energy responsibly and improves community engagement around those projects! It also codifies the Office of Environmental Justice & Equity into law. ?? Earlier in the summer, this bill contained Mass Rivers' top legislative priority, the #droughtbill. Unfortunately through tough negotiations, that provision was dropped from the final version. Rivers did get a boost though from a section making wetland restoration projects easier, and better flood mapping. ???? When federal protections for environment are in flux, the state's leadership in clean energy and conservation is even more urgent so we are thrilled to see this legislation pass now!
