It’s been a while since I made a film myself, and this discussion with award-winning documentary filmmakers Cecilia Peck and Inbal B. Lessner, ACE was inspiring – so fantastic to hear about the amount of thought and consideration for survivors that went into the creation of their series Escaping Twin Flames and Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult. A lot of cult coverage skews sensationalist, and that adds to a belief that something like this could never happen to us. But it could happen to anyone. THE WORKING CLASS CONTINUE TO BE SILENCED IN THE UK. Quiet on the Set: The Class Division in the Film Industry? is an upcoming documentary from award winning filmmaker Mark Forbes. If you're a regular follower of my posts you'll already be aware that this is a subject that I am vocal and passionate about. Mark interviewed me back in June to discuss my journey and lived in experiences which I'm sure others will resonate with. The feature doc exams the classism that has plagued the UK film industry for decades and through the lens of individuals from working-class backgrounds as we observe the challenges they encounter when attempting to enter the field. This is an issue that continues to be ignored and dismissed by the likes of the British Film Institute (BFI), who carry on funding and supporting filmmakers from more privileged positions. Innocent, fun film to enjoy this weekend. From a time when the movies were actually a real entertainment proposition! The plot was designed specifically to have couples excitedly whispering to each other and giggling in movie theatres / cinemas. These films were made in order to be enjoyed and not taken seriously. People went to the movies as part of a "night out" and sometimes enjoyed a few drinks. Nothing too deep or philosophical was required. Fun times and I believe the cyclical nature of culture will make great winners of producers who can provide some kind of equivalent for contemporary audiences ......and perhaps rescue the movie industry at the eleventh hour! Notes:- (1) Parallels Bogart / Bacall inspiration ending. (2) Parallels Sean Connery beach scenes. (3) Parallels Sid James type character boatman at the end. (4) Parallels Podge & Rodge puppet voiceovers / inspired by end segment? voices. (5) Old-school special effects of bee flying near window pane. (6) No doubt as to which movie character inspired "The Major" in Fawlty Towers! (7) If you are a real movie buff, now go to Simon Ward′s You Tube Channel and view the same movie in a colorized version prepared by Simon. A real insight into a transitional moment for the movie industry! Not just a question of whether to use colour or not, by the way! SO many other factors involved.....
