Our first home here - Chesapeake Colony Estates ?? Awesome neighbors! We still get invited, even if we don’t live there anymore. On this picture you can see part of the Colony Estates ladies ?? In the US, the warmth of welcoming neighbors is often a cherished part of community life. From friendly greetings to offering help with a smile, it’s common for neighbors to introduce themselves or even bring a welcome gift when someone new moves in. This open hospitality creates a sense of belonging and connection. While Europe has its own charms, such overt friendliness isn’t always as common. In many European cultures, neighbors may be more reserved, valuing privacy and boundaries over spontaneous interaction. The welcoming spirit in the US fosters a sense of community that’s unique and heartwarming. #atlanticexpats #expatinusa #europeansintheusa #expatlife #natofamilies #expatlife #relocationspecialists #movewithease #movetochesapeake #movetovirginia #colonyestatesladies #welcomingneighbors

Some more of our advocacy issues. Today: Liveability and Connectivity ????♂??? Our region is already known for its high quality of life, offering a vibrant and liveable environment for residents. With the forthcoming infrastructure investments and the intensification of our local economy, it is crucial to maintain and enhance this quality of life. As we embrace growth and development, we must ensure that our community experiences meaningful social uplift, benefiting from the opportunities these changes will bring. To support this vision, we must begin planning today for the transport infrastructure that will be required in the future. This proactive approach will ensure that our region remains well connected and accessible, supporting our residents’ needs and aspirations. Major projects such as AUKUS, the Future of Fremantle, and Westport will position our region as a focal point for international visitors. This presents a unique opportunity to showcase our community on the world stage, drawing visitors and investment. With significant change to our region over the coming decades, it is imperative that the State and Federal Governments recognise the importance of maintaining a positive social licence with our community as we support your national endeavours.

It feels like Christmas today. Why? Because today, City of Moreton Bay adopted the first ever Changing Places Network Plan (to clarify, not its first ever, THE first ever!). This exemplary piece of work, driven wholeheartedly by Andrew Monaghan, in partnership with Cred Consulting will support Moreton Bay to be one of the most accessible regions in Queensland and beyond. Changing Places facilities are not just a ‘PWD toilet’, they provide the spaces and equipment to change in a safe, dignified and inclusive manner. With ceiling hoists and height-adjustable adult change tables, these spaces allow people of all abilities to live in a truly inclusive way. To participate and enjoy activities, not having to worry about being able to access an appropriate bathroom. Everybody’s gotta go! With 3 Changing Places facilities currently in Moreton Bay, and 6 more planned, our Changing Places Network Plan paves the way for how we plan and prioritise future facilities in Australia’s fasted growing region. Proud is an understatement. A huge Congratulations and thank you to Andrew Monaghan, Isabella Nakos, Jason T., Julia Miller-Randle, Elly Spiro and the Cred Consulting Team, Mark McCormack, Leila Collins, Matthew Malone, and all those who have played a role (big or small) in this momentous achievement. #changingplaces #networkplanning #accessplanning #inclusiveplanning
More Changing Places facilities means better engagement in local communities for people with high support needs and their carers. We're proud to officially adopt a dedicated Changing Places Network Plan - the first of it's kind by a local government in Australia. ?? On our journey to become most accessible city in South East Queensland, this plan will guide the delivery of more Changing Places Facilities across the City, making it a more inclusive place to live, work and play. Imagine being unable to find a suitable place for your loved one to change, and having no option but the back of a station wagon. This is the reality for Australians with high support needs. Recently, a support worker reached out to me, seeking assistance to locate Changing Places facilities on the Sunshine Coast. She was coordinating care for an adult male who, because of the lack of changing places, was being changed in the back of his family’s station wagon. His family is incredibly supportive, doing everything they can to give him a full life, but it comes at a cost to his dignity. With 1 in 5 Australians living with a disability, and only 33 Changing Places in Queensland out of 312 nationally, it’s clear we need more of these crucial facilities. That’s why I’m so grateful to see councils like Moreton Bay stepping up to make their communities more accessible. If you’re a venue owner, there’s good news—through the federal government’s grant, you can receive 50% funding to build a Changing Place facility if you are in an area without one! Learn More About the Grant: https://lnkd.in/gNcCYDYz. If you’re passionate about creating more inclusive spaces, let’s connect and make it happen!
