*CONTROLLING HUMAN INSTINCTS* “In general, the role of instincts has been exaggerated, and early training, underrated; the most powerful instincts, such as sex and pugnacity, have been considerably modified and controlled by social training; and there is no reason why other instincts, like those of acquisition and mastery, should not be similarly modified by social influence and education. We must unlearn our ideas about unchangeable human nature and an omnipotent environment. There is no knowable limit to change or growth; and perhaps there is nothing impossible but thinking makes it so.” (John Dewey 1859-1952) #Philosophy #Psychology #Law #Lawyer #Humanity #Education #Training #Management #Thursdaythought #Morality #Politics #Politicians

As the Director of the Florida Blue Center for Ethics, Dr. LaChance Adams provides profound insights into the range of emotions parents often experience... the deep love for their children intertwined with the longing for personal space and identity. ?? Key Discussion Points: The intense emotional conflicts within maternal feelings, including the need for both closeness and distance. Societal and cultural influences on maternal roles and how they may exacerbate feelings of ambivalence. The role of self-reflection and community support in managing these complex emotions. https://ow.ly/rCaA50RjVcq

In the pursuit of collective decision-making, the rights and autonomy of individuals can be sacrificed. This not only undermines the principles of democracy but also limits personal freedoms and inhibits the ability of individuals to express themselves and pursue their own interests and aspirations. Yesterday my video post was about Basic Assumption Fight Flight (BaFF). This opinion piece by Claudine Gay, former President of Harvard University, exemplifies one way that BaFF has been manifesting in American society over the last several years, as so-called "conservatives" attempt to sew fear and mistrust in our political and social institutions with lies and bullying, while at the same time doing nothing to help us face our actual adaptive challenges. #SystemsThinking #BasicAssumptions #SystemsPsychodynamics #Politics #AdaptiveLeadership

"In her challenging book Epistemic Care (2023), Casey Rebecca Johnson argues that we have epistemic obligations to one another that stem from our social interdependence as knowers. Drawing on care ethics, she develops a framework for understanding these obligations, emphasizing the importance of identifying people's epistemic vulnerabilities while suggesting that the better-informed are responsible for ensuring epistemic labor's fair distribution." — Mark D. West. 2024. “Epistemic Care and Paternalism: A Review of Casey Rebecca Johnson’s Epistemic Care.” SERRC?13 (6): 60–64. https://wp.me/p1Bfg0-8Wm.

?????? ???????? ???????? ???? ???????????????????? Psychology’s influence on societal norms raises concerns about moral erosion, as practices like moral relativism oversimplify human nature. Ethical issues arise from unethical experimentation and the influence of the pharmaceutical industry. A distressing case of child abuse involving YouTuber Ruby Franke and her partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, led to Franke’s 60-year prison sentence. The children endured physical and emotional abuse, coerced into believing they were evil. Franke showed remorse, but both women pleaded guilty. Accountability extends to Hildebrandt, emphasizing the need for child protection efforts and encouraging individuals to speak up if they witness signs of abuse. Individuals must carefully choose who speaks into their psyche, as what they consume as knowledge impacts their worldview and actions. Guarding one’s hearing is essential in navigating the complexities of psychological influence. https://lnkd.in/dw5dRcTa
