Workplace Culture & Employee Turnover | Employee Engagement | 2x TEDx International Female Keynote Speaker | Author, The Art of Active Listening and The Art of Caring Leadership
Some people believe that organizational culture remains static, either inherently good or bad, within companies and associations. But this perspective is flawed... Organizational culture actually operates on a sliding scale, and it’s not always as it appears. It operates on a spectrum, meaning that a culture perceived as positive may be silently declining, while a culture perceived as negative could be undergoing positive changes. Last week, I introduced the three critical stages of organizational culture dynamics and how we can effectively address those stages in leadership. Those are: 1. Culture Slip 2. Culture Clash 3. Culture Collision In this video, I explain in detail what “Culture Slip” is and what you can do to avoid this in your organization. Culture Slip is the silent culture crusher lurking in many organizations. Even companies with all the perks experience this because, beneath the surface, employees can still feel disconnected and undervalued. As a workplace culture consultant, I’ve seen it firsthand. But here’s the good news: with proactive leadership and open communication, we can combat Culture Slip together! This marks the initial stage of the three, presenting the optimal opportunity to enhance your organizational culture. If you’re ready to safeguard your organization’s culture, let's chat! #CultureSlip #EmployeeEngagement #CaringLeadership

Check out this post from Denise Lee Yohn: If you’re struggling to build a cohesive company culture, you’re not alone.? Where and how people work varies so much now that culture-building seems more difficult than ever. Instead of trying to control or quash the different directions your culture seems to be headed, provide clarity and focus to the variations. We aim to maximize results through high-performance organizational cultures, top-team alignment, and inclusive leadership.
Culture Share of the Day: (thanks Dr Rebecca Newton & HBR) I love this excerpt: "create a survey and tailor your questions around the specifics of the culture you want to keep. If, for example, being entrepreneurial is important to your culture, ask whether it’s true that “We create a safe space to learn from mistakes.” Focusing on what you want to retain on your culture can be as important as what you want to change or create. A thoughtful process of knowing how your employees experience the current culture, and allowing your organization to participate in an inclusive build process to create a stronger future culture, can be the secret ingredient in improving key metrics like performance, retention, and the like. Enjoy! #secret7culture

?? Why a People-First Culture Matters ?? In today’s fast-paced world, where deadlines, KPIs, and performance targets seem to rule, it’s easy to forget what truly drives a company’s success—its people. ?? When we prioritize people, something magical happens: engagement soars, creativity thrives, and collaboration becomes second nature. ??? A people-first culture isn’t just a "nice-to-have"—it’s the heartbeat of an organization, fueling innovation, inclusivity, and growth. When we invest in the well-being and development of our teams, we create spaces where everyone can bring their best selves to work. So, let’s remember to listen more, support each other, and keep those human connections at the core of what we do. The future of work isn’t just about reaching goals—it’s about lifting people up along the way! ???? #PeopleFirst #CompanyCulture #HRMatters #Leadership #FutureOfWork

Before we dive into what a strong culture looks like, we have to determine what culture isn't. Culture is not comprised of fancy break rooms, beer kegs, ping pong tables, inspirational quotes on a wall or an idea defined by any one person. It's also not something that happens by accident. In fact, it's ever-changing and formed by the interactions people have with one another. Remember: People are always watching and taking their cues from leaders. Those cues lead to creating a culture, whether good or bad. If you're looking for guidance on not only building a successful culture but also determining what your culture is not, reach out to us today to learn about how our consultants can be a resource in helping shape an intentional culture. Culture is often described as “the way things are done around here.” However, a useful culture is defined by three aligned elements: behaviors, systems, and practices, all guided by core values. When these align with the organization's values, you have a great culture. Gaps lead to problems and great employees leaving. If top talent is leaving, identify and fix those gaps to retain your best people. Create the Culture you want to be part of... #systemandsoul #values #culturecreation

Learning about a workplace and its culture is one of my favorite aspects of the work we do. When I think about it, I smile because it is the most amazing thing to make a roadmap of culture transformation and then seeing the positive impact when change happens. Most of the time, it isn't a snap of your fingers change - if it was that easy, it would be done already. But, it is not impossible to impact the culture positively to move it in the direction you want it to be. And, it isn't always drastic changes that need to be made. Sometimes they are very simple, yet not obvious to you because you are too close to it. In order to uncover what is happening, we use employee surveys, focus groups, and leadership conversations to learn about the current state of culture as well as discover what employees and leadership see for where change should occur. Then, we take the information and create a roadmap for the culture transformation. Along the way, focus groups and surveys are helpful check-in points to measure progress. Is your company culture what you want it to be? If not, what is preventing you from making change happen? If you need assistance with culture transformation, please reach out to me. #culture #employeerelations #culturetransformation

A must read article by the always brilliant and insightful Erin Meyer about organizational culture and how more specifically crafted values attached to it can: ?? Be truly actionable if they help solve real life dilemnas ?? Inform employee behavior ? Help decision-making ?? Should drive strategy ? Sometimes come into tension with other considerations (e.g transparency can't trump privacy). It is a refreshing read as I'm pretty sure many of us have looked at their company values thinking they were just nice words on paper. In this article, Eric gives real life examples that bring it to life. The challenge remains having the values really embodied throughout the organization, starting with top management. If you enjoyed this article, I can only recommend to add on your Summer reading list The Culture map. In those times of division, getting a better grip on cultural differences, at work and in life, helps become more open-minded and capable of engaging more peacefully with people different from us. #culture #companyculture #companyvalues #leadership
