Check out the second segment from our collaboration with Arizona PBS sharing Arizonans' Shared Public Values. This episode focuses on Arizona’s Shared Public Value for education, defined by CFA's Gallup Arizona Survey as a highly skilled and educated population. One action to support this aspiration, which Arizonans support, is to give schools the freedom to customize learning for each child. See how some of our partners in the Arizona Personalized Learning Network are bringing personalized, competency-based learning to Mesa Public Schools' students. https://bit.ly/3Myh1zf

Access to books is an equity issue. By the time they are in eighth grade, learners should be mastering their reading skills with higher level literature and reading for pleasure frequently. Unfortunately, children in under-resourced communities often don't have access to books at home, which can support their language and fluency skills, and communities of color bear the brunt of the impacts of under-resourced school districts. There is still time to support our Gift of Literacy campaign, and help us fill in the gaps for young readers in our four core cities of Pawtucket, Central Falls, Woonsocket and Providence. Talk about creative recruiting and retention. I'd love to hear other innovative recruiting strategies
A group of educators moved in to the Fairfield County Teacher Village this weekend. This village gives educators in the district an affordable housing option with a short commute to rural schools. Juan Alvarado is the inaugural Educator in Residence in the USC College of Education house in the village. He is beginning his first year in the classroom. “You do take a moment and think, ‘Is this too good to be true?’” Alvarado said, “I’m thankful for the position and (that) I took advantage of the opportunity.” See the full story on WIS-TV: bit.ly/46EFL1T

Many, many years ago in my first year as an NYC middle school math teacher, my colleagues and I would trade stories about our experiences in teacher preparation programs - some were heavy on pedagogical theory and light on practical experience…others were “trial by fire” and “learn as you go” - all at the expense of the children in our classrooms. What if there was a program that provided the space for both pedagogy and practice, the opportunity to learn from and work side by side a master mentor teacher, and the time to hone your craft…while earning a living wage and getting your teaching credential? Y’all it’s here: Marshall. Teacher. Residency.

We help good stewards protect the fruits of their labor with value centered estate planning and elder law solutions.
Today is an exciting day. A little more than a year ago, the small classical school that I had the pleasure of serving announced it would cease operations. It was a tough call, but the right one. There was no one decision, event, or person that lead to its closure. Several decisions that didn't work out, some decisions that weren't made, and a tough market were all contributors. The months leading up to the decisions were quite positive and exciting, we felt momentum, but we also knew a significant change would have to be made. We believed that the school would need to adopt a cottage school (less than 5 days a week) option or shift to only offering that. There just wasn't enough gas in the tank to make the change, and tough decisions had to be made. In the middle we asked, what was the purpose of all the planning for a cottage school? The day the school announced it was closing a small group of parents and teachers began discussing how they could continue to do school together. Out of those conversations, The Oaks Classical Cottage School was born. It's the first cottage style school in our region. Tonight, our head of school will give a state of the school report that will share the details of how the year has gone so very well. Healthy financials, engaging faculty, a collaborative and fun board, and enrollment that is proof positive that there's a market for a school that teaches truth and values the family here in the river region. And me? Well, I get to be the lawyer in downtown USA, helping folks make decisions that impact the future of their loved ones, something I've always dreamed of doing. Going through a rough patch? Something far better is on the other side. #headofschool #classicalchristian #cottageschool #classicalschool
