I am glad to share that I recently completed the course on patient-centered care presented by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). Such knowledge is required for doctors in a health care scene driven by patients' decisions. ??♂? In this course I learned four modules as follows: 1- Foundational Concepts of Patient-Centred Care. 2- Patient Participation in Decision-Making. 3- Patient-reported outcome measures. 4- Funding Surgical Care Based on Value. Imagine a school where medical students, residents, nurses, and attending physicians can learn deeper models of human #anatomy and understand the principles and practices of healing, going beyond the current understanding of integrative medicine, yet making it accessible to all in a shorter time. Imagine a school where #wellness professionals can learn the science of medicine, the strengths and limitations of the medical model, and the deeper philosophy and practice of #healing that connects all systems. Now imagine that they are the same school. What will follow is a shift from the current state of healthcare and wellness to a focus on healing together from the individual to the planetary scale. Amid ongoing headwinds facing the health care sector, Lifespan health system and Brown University expanded their affiliation to strengthen top-quality patient care, medical education and biomedical research in Rhode Island. ? Lifespan will change its name to Brown University Health — to be referred to commonly as Brown Health — later this year through a rebranding effort, enhancing its ability to recruit and retain world-class physicians and reflecting a deeper alignment between Lifespan’s clinical care and Brown’s academic and research focus. The affiliation also includes reciprocal financial investments between Lifespan and Brown, which will continue as separate, independent organizations after the implementation of the Lifespan rebrand. ?? Publication alert! I am thrilled to announce that the systematic review from my PhD, exploring organisational compassion-based interventions to enhance health professionals’ well-being, has been published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing! ?? The review outlines how organisational #compassion can advance efforts to foster compassion within our healthcare systems. Despite some limitations in the included studies, the review findings strongly indicate that human interconnectedness is a protective factor for health professionals’ well-being. ?????? However, more rigorous studies and robust measurement tools for organisational compassion are essential for future research. We contribute to this effort by summarising the outcomes reported in the literature. ?? Please have a read if you are interested in compassion.
