Mayhem! Chaos! Bedlam! What we see unfolding across US College campuses is nothing short of insanity. Free Palestine agitators rile up crowds, assault police officers, and prevent Jewish students from entering lecture halls and campus facilities. This black stain upon our nation must be condemned and dismantled post haste. Social media doesn’t want us to share these posts because they reflect poorly on the elites, allowing this insanity to continue. We must continue our efforts in earnest, raising awareness of what Jewish students face daily as the spring semester comes to a close. Several agitators hurling antisemitic slurs at Jews, calling for a free Palestine from the river to the sea, are not even enrolled in the colleges. Mayor Eric Adams of New York City, a former police officer, was surprised to learn that many of these supposedly spontaneous protests erupting all over the country had identical tents. He questioned whether there was a fire sale on all these tents that suddenly appeared everywhere. People are starting to realize what is going on. Liberal New York City gets it. It’s time for the rest of the country to stand up and stamp out this madness. A multitude of investigations is ongoing. Everybody wants to know who is funding this antisemitism. We will get to the bottom of it one way or another. It’s one thing to protest peacefully, but intimidation, violence, harassment, threats, and human chains to prevent Jewish students from entering classrooms are unacceptable on every level. Treason—giving aid and comfort to America’s enemies—is the word that came to mind when watching the sickening scenes at Columbia University this weekend, where the privileged and pampered took up the cudgels for Hamas, openly declaring their support for this death cult. By identifying with Hamas, these students are saying that they are on the same side as murderers, rapists and butchers. How the terrorists must be laughing at the breathtaking stupidity being displayed across the west. Who needs suicide bombers when you have hysterical, overgrown children—students aided and abetted by left-wing professors—spreading the poison for you? By no stretch of the imagination could these be called “peaceful protests.” Jewish students were harassed, chased and threatened by mobs. We are now seeing similar ugly incidents at Yale and other institutions. Much of the mainstream media couldn’t be bothered to cover what happened at Columbia, obviously unconcerned that Jewish students no longer feel safe on their campuses. And where is the condemnation from the US president and other senior ranking politicians? If these scenes were playing out and the vitriol was being launched at other ethnic groups, you can guarantee that the disapprobation would be swift and unilateral. Am I disgusted? Yes. Surprised? Not really give that pusillanimous governments worldwide have been indulging these aggressive mobs for the last six months. In London, a Jewish man is told not to cross a road because he “looks openly Jewish” which might inflame the protestors. Never mind the odious chants of the disruptors and how provocative those might be to someone else. How long are university presidents and policymakers prepared to let this seething cauldron of hatred proliferate across their campuses—until God forbid someone is seriously injured or killed? Then what? Would such a horrible incident finally force them to be accountable and take action? Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

Of the 1,421 public and private nonprofit colleges that we ranked, 318 have had protests and 123 have had encampments. By matching that data to percentages of students at each campus who receive Pell Grants (which are awarded to students from moderate- and low-income families), we came to an unsurprising conclusion: Pro-Palestinian protests have been rare at colleges with high percentages of Pell students. "When Jewish students or faculty raise concerns about their safety or the hate associated with activities on campus, the typical response is the assurance that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism. However...even if the intent is not antisemitic, universities have long emphasized that it is effect, not intent, that matters. For example, we would never dismiss an Indigenous or LGBTQ student concerned about actions they considered discriminatory on the basis of assurances that there was no discriminatory intent. In fact, the opposite is true as university?EDI documents?state that discrimination is often unintentional. What matters is not what the speaker or initiator intended, but rather the impact on the affected individual. In the case of Jewish students, however — whether Zionist or otherwise — they are told that how they perceive the speech or campus actions is irrelevant, effectively meaning Jews do not get to decide for themselves what is antisemitic, which gives licence to others to cause harms on the basis of their professed intent. ? It is the cumulative effect of months of this discrimination?— Jewish students and faculty left to feel unsafe on campus, told their political or religious beliefs are unwelcome, or the failure to enforce university policies on student non-discrimination — that has created a normalization of antisemitism that was once unthinkable on Canadian campuses...we can ill-afford more days where Jewish students are harassed, discriminatorily targeted, or excluded on campus for their beliefs. Make no mistake. #antisemitism and #radicalislam join forces to attack both Jews as well as all Western societies. The terror waves sweeping across Europe is what seems to be coming our way. Calling for the destruction of #israel ("From the River to the sea" is exactly what that means - just look at a map) and for the killing of Jews is NOT free speech. Neither is the intimidation and harassment of Jewish students. It's pure hate speech - which is exactly what "prestigious" #academia establishments allow, tolerate, and embrace through the lack of indecisive action. Previously known as #ivyleague, these institutions should be grouped under #poisonivyleague. The Poison Ivy League members spectacularly FAIL their number one mission, priority & reason for existence: to educate younger generations to critical thinking, communications and proper dialogue, especially with people you may disagree with. "The moral compass established following the Holocaust and with respect to the civil rights movement, which was enthusiastically supported by the Jewish community standing with Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK), is being decimated by educators, demonstrators, and even political leaders attempting to establish a new world order, flipping the West’s foundational principles on their head. Our own Director of Education at The Abraham Global Peace Initiative, Dr. Neil Orlowsky, working within the educational institutional framework, expressed, 'We are not dealing with rational people. We are dealing with woke, entitled youth who are blind to their own antisemitism'. The truth is also that our situation is far worse than spoiled youth who are being mistaught in schools and allowed to march out of class in support of Hamas. It’s time for the grown-ups in our communities to take back our cities that are being hijacked by people bringing hate into our communities...MLK himself unequivocally said that 'peace for Israel means security, and we must stand with all our might to protect its right to exist'. But no one 'woke' in the education system these days dare repeat these words. ? Raoul Wallenberg, whom as Canadians we honoured this week as part of an annual day of commemoration of his legacy, would be livid seeing how some of our schools are allowing students to set up boycott campaigns against Israel, the embodiment of the Jewish people. What good was it for our nation to have made him an honorary citizen if our political leaders fail to realize their hypocrisy? Every nation is allowed to defend itself except for the Jews. ? We are in an existential crisis brought on by a radical ideology operating on our streets...we long for our Canada that was safe and secure. We long for our Canada whose citizens were respectful of one another. Where no one raged on our streets calling for our death or burning down our stores. We long for a Canada that stands for freedom and democracy and distinguishes friend from foe. We need to get back to our grounding — to our foundational principles and the values we cherished. More ominous signs that campus unrest may grow in intensity this fall, which raises the following questions: Have college administrators taken advantage of the summer lull to review, update, and strengthen their campus protest policies, in light of "lessons learned" from recent events? Will students return to campus with a better understanding of what those policies are and how they'll be enforced? Do new or returning college students need remedial education in the free speech fundamentals? It's not too late for schools to seize this moment to undertake a top-to-bottom review of their campus free speech policies. If not now, when? https://lnkd.in/eEZUfTDv

Come Fall, They’ll Be Our Students Again Sitting and waiting in hope of an Israeli-Hamas peace deal won’t get the work done of readying campuses. To return to the work of educating while holding at bay destructive speech and rhetoric, campuses need to prepare for the Israeli-Hamas conflict to continue to divide their campuses. Dialogue and listening and not police action are the means to reconstitute campus communities through this generation’s differently shaped perspective on the Middle East. Alarmingly, many campus’ abilities to engage in the enterprise of research and education was sidelined this past academic year by heated divisions during the Israeli-Hamas protests. Admittedly, as a career higher ed professional I admit to reacting to the protests in ways that carry over responses that are deeply informed by WWII atrocities, which are not as deeply engrained in our students’ worldview. Many in my generation grew up with grandfathers who fought in WWII and know from their firsthand accounts the horrors of the holocaust. I remember hearing my grandfather’s eyewitness accounts of the barbarism that took place in Bergen-Belsen and Dachau. My family’s position regarding Israel’s right to exist and other related topics (like the treatment of the Palestinian people) has always been informed by the reality of the holocaust. For the most part, the lived experience handed down from my grandfather isn’t a part of our students’ collective perspective. From their perspectives, many are protesting a powerful nation inflicting pain and suffering on the defenseless people of Gaza who are without food, water, and basic sanitation. Responding supportively to students who feel drawn to speak out for the Palestinians living out hellish existences and supporting students still struggling with the horrifying events of October 6th will be key to allowing for this important dialogue to continue to shape this generation’s collective and divided calls to action.?
