The critical thinking we have been teaching in schools for decades is no match for problems being created by many social media platforms. Misinformation and disinformation do have harmful effects. Companies running theses platforms show they care more about profit than being responsible for the social problems them help to foster. Enabling a climate that is harmful to society is not being responsible. Blaming people abuse your platforms is a weak argument when you know the opportunity for abuse is simple and problematic but supports your efforts to monetize the abuse.
