How does AI affect social science research? Today I'm at the Imagination in Action conference at the MIT Media Lab hearing from PhD students in AI and related fields. I'll be sharing my insights through a series of AI-human collaborative portraits. This is Hope Schroeder. Hope presented on her research studying how the use of AI in text analysis during the research process influences both the quality of the research (some red flags to be aware of) and the quality of the researcher (turns out it measurably improves the researcher's understanding of the data!). Hot take: It doesn't save the researcher time! Hope is one to watch as we look to understand the application of AI in the context of social science research. #ImaginationInAction #MITForge2024

My piece 'AI and the Renaissance of the Polymath' has been featured in (ET) Magazine. In the piece, originally published on my Substack, I explore how AI-Enhanced Integrative Thinking holds the potential to reshape our approaches to knowledge. From Leonardo da Vinci to modern day polymaths, I propose that generative AI could lower the barriers to multidisciplinary excellence in higher education. From an educational perspective, perhaps the most exciting aspect of AI-Enhanced Integrative Thinking is its potential to democratize interdisciplinary expertise for students. While not everyone can be a Leonardo da Vinci or a Marie Curie, AI technology lowers barriers to meaningful engagement across multiple disciplines.
