Last week, we experienced a bittersweet moment as we officially said goodbye to the building that was home to our Wizard's Technical Support team for many years. ??♂??? We remember the countless calls, laughter, and problem-solving that took place within those walls. These memories are a true testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone who walked through those doors! While the old building may be gone, our Wizards Technical Support are still serving you with the same care and commitment throughout our service area—headquartered at our Winona storefront, 58 Johnson St. ?????? #MovingForward #WizardsTechnicalSupport #weserveweconnectwecare

Hive Mind: I have a technical question for Texas Economic Development experts. As we know, Type A EDCs are very limited in their flexibility for funds to be leveraged for downtown quality of life improvements. However, they have substantial ability to support manufacturing operations that create primary jobs. Does this type of artisanal “small manufacturing” operation qualify? Is it in a gray area? Does it depend? I’ve heard of breweries being used in this way, but I don’t know the specific case studies nor how broadly applicable it might be. Think custom furniture makers, pottery and ceramic studios, artisan food makers, textile designers, printmakers, etc. who are using up to 5,000 square feet (often much less) and are interacting directly with the public. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Bring main street, downtown, & the local economy back to life with small-scale manufacturing. CEO of Recast City.
Congratulations to Jennifer Fukala, Brian Pi?on and the entire City of Elgin, IL on the adoption of these great zoning changes! As a member of our Recast Leaders 2024, I know this is just a starting point for you and there is so much more to come! "The first amendment creates an artisan industry classification that allows businesses to create and sell goods from the same location. Businesses under 5,000 square feet with production processes that don’t involve extreme temperatures or hazardous materials, such as fine artists or candy makers, can now operate without a conditional use permit." These kinds of zoning amendments are key to reduce barriers for product businesses downtown. It's a great place to start! https://lnkd.in/ekrrkx-r Want to learn more about Recast City's premier cohort program for communities ready to get things done for vacant storefronts, local product businesses, and community members? 15 years ago today, I walked into CloserStill Media for my first day with the business (don’t get excited, it’s not my last day just yet). That CloserStill office at that stage was part of a converted pig farm. There was about 10 employees in a fledgling business, and I had just left my perfectly stable job in the tech market to risk it in events. In the past 15 years, CloserStill has grown from about 10 people to approximately 700, with offices all over the world (none in a pig farm as far as I'm aware). We've gone from about three exhibitions to 120 worldwide and won a stack of awards in the process. A massive part of my working life has been for CloserStill, and I'm very proud of what we have achieved over the years. I believe we have stuck to many of CloserStill’s founding principles and we as a business have developed a shared belief into core values that for most of us have made CloserStill a great place to work. It's really interesting looking at the people around the business and thinking about those who have been and gone during that time. Whenever there is an industry event you can see the amount of massively successful people who have had CloserStill as part of their history. I’ll be honest...it doesn't suit everyone, but I am grateful for what the business has done for me, and very proud of the part CloserStill has played for others. So cheers to CloserStillians everywhere – past, present and future. You’ve made it a great innings for me so far and there’s plenty more action to come. #workanniversary #15years #closerstillmedia #proudmoment #cheerstosuccess #eventexperts #culture #longservice

did a great 3 step exercise at Hampton offsite yesterday. step 1: our team wrote down the things going well (green) and what wasn't (red). step 2: then everyone puts dots on the areas they think we should be focus on. step 3: open it up for discussion was a great way to visually crowdsource ideas and prioritize into actionable discussion points.

This is a story about imposter syndrome and not assuming the worst —?for eight years. At the Bureau of Digital Owner Summit in 2016, I gave a presentation called “Creating a Culture of Empowerment.” It was the first talk Four Kitchens took super, super seriously in terms of production quality. We hired GhostRanch Communications to design a custom slide deck and a video crew to record it. We also printed posters (pictured below) that I handed out prior to the talk. I had presented less polished versions of “Culture of Empowerment” at DrupalCon Latin American and other events, and the feedback was positive. Attendees approached me afterwards with compliments and stories of their own about empowerment (or disempowerment) at their jobs. But after Owner Summit, I did NOT feel good. Something about giving that talk in front of other agency owners left me terribly embarrassed and feeling like a total fraud. I don't remember anyone talking to me afterwards. Some polite acknowledgements, sure, but nothing meaningful. Was my perspective too simplistic or obvious? Did I come across as condescending? Had I wasted their time? I was convinced I had made a fool of myself in front of my peers. I never gave that presentation again, and I always winced when I thought about it. For eight years. Then, a few days ago, Kris LaGreca shared this lovely post. It's is the first positive feedback I've ever received about that talk. I’m relieved it meant something to someone, and I’m shocked that someone not only kept that handout, but?FRAMED?it! I vividly remember the walk of shame up and down every row in the emptied ballroom, collecting almost every handout I had dropped off an hour-and-a-half earlier. Eight years! I wasted a lot of time feeling embarrassed about nothing. Because making an impression on just one person made it all worthwhile.
This has got to be 15+ years old. Met these folks at an early Owner's Summit and they left an amazing impression on me. Hope everyone at Four Kitchens is still thriving. And thanks to Carl Smith for making those summits happen.

When did rooms become "spaces"? I just heard someone say on tv, “This is the bedroom space.” ... No, it’s the bedroom! I was having this exact conversation at work today with Laura Breckles, we were talking about wording on a report. My rules are: ??be clear ??be concise ??don't use 10 words when 2 are enough. Simplicity gets the message across better. Get to the point! Why do people feel the need to make things more complicated than they are? If it’s gone up, say “up,” if it’s down, say “down.” There’s no need for fancy wording or all the 'fluff'. People do the same with accounts, they don’t need to be complicated either. Clear, simple, and easy to understand. If you get a report from me, it's straight forward, and to the point. That way, you can actually use it, rather than spending too much time finding the useful information. What’s the most confusing jargon you’ve heard? Is it just me that finds it pointless? ?? It was the best picture I could find, it's not relevant but a photo of a room is boring! #GetToThePoint #KeepItSimple #KeepItSimpleStupid #ARoomIsARoom #SmallBusinessTips #BusinessOwners #NewBusinessOwners #ClearAccounting #UnderstandYourAccounts #SimpleFinance #GetLogical #GetLogicalSupport #GetLogicalLearning #GetLogicalStrategy #GetLogicalGrowth
