The best thing about the Design School is our members. Tomorrow we have a special member-led offering by Chris Diehl, Ph.D. about how technology supports can help us weave regeneration to the scale of entire landscape systems. Here is how he describes the session: "How do our visions of the future change when complex, exploratory questions can be answered instantaneously? We are living through a profound acceleration of computational intelligence and now more than ever, it's imperative to harness these capabilities for planetary regeneration. In this session, I'll make the case for the need to advance the state of the art in sense-making and decision-making tools tailored to surface and pursue high-value opportunities for regeneration. I'll share the story of my own exploration in the context of landscape-scale rehydration and bring you up to the leading edge of the questions I'm holding as this work progresses. This is the first time I've publicly spoken about this work I've been pursuing over the last few years. I will demonstrate a prototype sense-making tool I built to explore U.S. public rangelands data, with a particular emphasis on the social layer within this context." Become a member of the Design School today and join us! https://lnkd.in/guvJkrgm

https://cdfam.com/24-nyc/ Madeleine Eggers of KPF will be presenting on the Anatomy of Computational Building Geometry: Unveiling the Foundational Methods Beneath Complex Architectural Design AT CDFAM - Computational Design Symposium in NYC Oct 2-3, 2024 KPF's computational geometry processes are built on five core methods: data branching, point sorting, plane-based calculation, cross-referencing, and surface rebuilding. These methods are the foundation of almost every computational task in their projects, regardless of complexity. While these methods may seem simple, they become crucial in large projects due to the many conditions and edge cases that arise. In their work, these core methods are standardized and scalable, forming the bulk of the computational effort before applying specific bespoke logic. Their presentation will define these foundational methods and demonstrate their application through case studies of large-scale architectural projects. #ComputationalDesign #GeometryOptimization #ArchitecturalInnovation #ParametricDesign #DigitalFabrication #BuildingTechnology #GeometricComputation #ScalableDesign #ArchitecturalEngineering #KPFArchitecture #CDFAM #NYC

Introducing our Panels: Telling Stories in Synchronicity #Presence?#Fabulation?#Characters Moderated by?Agostino Nickl Day 2 - 13.06 - 14:00 CEST Everything communicates, storing, sending and receiving information; Distinctions between what’s on- and off-screen seem superseded, and categories as actual or virtual feel strangely out of time. What forms of contemporary storytelling can emerge from such an interconnected condition? Behind the ever more impressive graphics and sounds our computers process, there are tropes, imaginaries, fabulations and imaginaries at play that are integral to the human experience. The discussion will focus on innovative approaches to storytelling that leverage this digital synchronicity, examining the possibilities for new narrative forms, immersions, characters and architectures that emerge from our hyper-connected reality. Talks by: - You+Pea (https://lnkd.in/ewC5Fq94) / The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL - Lee-Su Huang + Jimmy Wei-Chun Cheng / University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning - Karla Salda?a Ochoa / University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning + Zoe Ryan / NVIDIA
