While we have rolls of bubble wrap at our warehouse, we were asked to buy a different type of bubble wrap with a specific size of bubble and an exact type of shrink wrap. So we did. Then we followed their guidelines on how to package the shrink and bubble wrap, which was different from our usual packaging process. Have you ever thought about how your loaf of bread reaches the shop shelves? After being baked and packaged it needs to get to the shop. That's where we come in! Every day we receive an average of 140,000 freshly baked products into our warehouse, all of which need to be sorted into customer orders. That's 450 customers which could all want any number of 410 different products. This has to be done in a few hours before the delivery team arrive to load the orders into the lorries. The answer to doing this effectively is an LED light system which hangs from steel ropes. The LED lights hang on a row with each light representing one customer order. The lights are linked to a customer order system and by scanning in a product, all customer orders that require that product will light up with the required quantity. Our team then place the relevant products into that customer order space. I love walking around warehouses. But, there’s one thing that always baffles me… Why don't we utilise the entire pallet height for your chosen retailer. 9 times out of 10, it’s because the packaging can’t take the weight. Which could be down to the board grade or you have air space in the box. ?? Strong boxes allow you to utilise a full pallet. Penny pinching on the price of a box to take pounds off the profit margin. A quality box will withstand the weight… Protecting the product from factory to supermarket shelf ??

I spotted a few chocolate Santa's in the supermarket yesterday. I could lie and say "IT'S TOO EARLY FOR CHRISTMAS THINGS" or "IT'S NOT EVEN HALLOWEEN YET" but I love it really. It's another reminder that peak season is upon us. Retailers will enter a code-freeze soon. They'll sell, sell, sell over the next few months to billions of consumers. Sadly, a chunk of those consumers will have a poor returns experience, never to use the brand again. Stock to Shelf in a third of the Time ? Getting stock to shelf in any Supermarket requires an army of staff, lots of walking, talking and boxes everywhere. Stores can now do it in a third of the time. ShelfLink’s auto Pick Lists provide the Big Brother guidance that is needed – both as regards what must be picked and how fast the process is being completed. Staff continue to pick and pack to shelf, only now the system advises what must be picked and arranges stock by Aisle and priority. That cuts two thirds of the current process time out, improves the On Shelf Availability, reduces Out of Stocks and lost lines, while requiring far fewer staff hours.
