Considering working in the #nonprofit or #government sector? Meet #USCPrice alum Nicolas Rodriguez, MPA, a specialist at a youth homeless and foster care nonprofit. He shares his experience in the USC Price MPA Online program and how important it was to gain skills and knowledge that were immediately applicable to his field. “I think if anyone were to get into this program and if they find themselves in the nonprofit or government sector, that is such a much more enriching way to engage with the subject materials because you’re easily able to see how this relates to your current job.” Check out the rest of his Q&A here to learn more about the program: https://lnkd.in/gKXBNx7T USC Online

How do you participate in your local community? I was 38 years old before I voluntarily participated in any organization outside of work, or Church. Then because of circumstances, I played the role of Mr. Mom. It started with being on the Site Council for my kid's school. Since then, I have been on the PTA, and been PTA President. Currently serving on the Board for the local Hospital Foundation, a city Board, and on the Board of our county travel DMO. I mention this because by serving in a variety of capacities, I've learned to see the world from a viewpoint different than my own. It has given me the opportunity to learn more about non-profit organizations, and a chance to meet regularly with some intelligent individuals. Where do you volunteer, and what have you learned? #volunteerwork #businessrelationships #realestate #investing

I work with people who want to make the leap from corporate to nonprofit, by coaching them to find the right path for their servant heart. I love helping great people find great nonprofits.
Nonprofits have lively phrases and words unique to the sector, such as Mission Creep. Nonprofits may at times became distracted by opportunities that fall outside their mission. If they pursue opportunities slightly outside of their core Mission, this is referred to as Mission Creep. If you are pursuing a career in the nonprofit sector and want to more more about nonprofit vernacular, please reach out to me. #nonprofitcareers #nonprofitjobs #nonprofitwords #community #fromcorporatetonoprofit

Re-imagining the multi-solving potential of bringing people together to cook together, eat together, and be together.
Non-profit employees in Canada are paid on average $20,000 less per year than for profit employees. $21,000/year is on average what I need to invest per year to retire at a decent age. We pay people in a sector that was designed to offload government work and save the world $20,000 less per year in Canada. The choice we are asking is: do you want to retire or have savings for an emergency ever or work for a non-profit. This needs to change.
A few days ago I saw an article talking about how low nonprofit employees are paid. You know I've talked at length about this and continue to hold nonprofits accountable for that. However. I am in the industry and I advocate on the inside. But for people on the outside to not consider that this is EXACTLY what the public and the watchdogs have effectively asked for for years is irresponsible reporting. Every person who works in the sector has heard at least once, "you mean you don't work for free?" with some sort of illogical morality ascribed to us as if we should just be grateful to be "giving back." It is those types of attitudes that continue to create an environment where the rich CEO will save our sector once they make all their money and come over to nonprofits and "fix" us. Where heaven forbid we spend money to make money like any other industry. So yes, nonprofit workers are paid shit. And it needs to be fixed. But don't think for a second this is a problem that is ONLY caused by nonprofits. #nonprofitlife #nonprofitleadership #nonprofitoperations

Things below the surface need attention too. And in an industry that for decades has encouraged/required martyrdom, social impact has had to put its head in the sand on all these chronic tensions in order to survive. But that isn't working anymore. Loving this image and recent article "Portal of Transformation: Remodeling Our Approach to Conflict" put out by Hiver Rebecca Marchiafava. The distinct lack of psychological safety that has creeped in to many nonprofit organizations means that often we push aside conflict for the "greater good" - but there is a distinct cost to continuing traditional approaches. If we look at conflict as an opportunity what could we gain in nonprofit?? How do you find conflict has been handled in your nonprofit work?? __________________________ Make sure to go and check out the full article here! https://lnkd.in/gzBbxdv8 #nonprofit #nonprofitwork #socialimpact #conflictresolution
