I can't wait to see more posts about Build Submarines "Built to Last" campaign and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness about the incredible opportunities in maritime manufacturing. It's time to debunk some outdated perceptions about the industry I work in at Granite State Manufacturing ; specifically building US Navy ships & submarines. Firstly, the belief that skilled trades and manufacturing jobs offer low pay is untrue. These positions offer competitive salaries and excellent benefits. Secondly, there's a misconception that there are limited career growth opportunities. In reality, the industry is full of pathways for advancement and professional development. And lastly, it's time to break the stereotype that these fields are predominantly male-dominated. Women are making significant strides and contributions in skilled trades and manufacturing every day. We come together from different backgrounds, perspectives and expertise, making Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) part of everything we do. Senior Consultant, Savannah Miller, recently spoke at University of Southern California, on how Qvest incorporates DEI into our culture. During the DEI Recruiting Panel, Savannah shared these key insights: ? Celebrating differences. Employees are encouraged to join pods and employee resource groups (ERG) aligned to their interests. Whether planning events through the culture pod or making a social impact through the pro bono pod, there is something for everyone. If not, we’re encouraged to start our own. ?? Combating socioeconomic disadvantages. Qvest addresses socioeconomic disparities through the New Hire Boot Camp. The new analyst class meets for a week of programming to prepare for life in consulting. This ranges from how to effectively present to conducting stakeholder interviews to pitching proposals. ?? Making mentorship multidimensional. Our mentorship program matches new hires with a mentor of similar background or interests. Our Black Leaders and Doers ERG, recently started another mentorship program to provide black employees with support from people with shared experiences. His journey wasn’t just about getting a license; it was a testament to his drive, passion for his profession, and willingness to do what it takes, even when others say differently. This determination sets candidates apart (in a BIG way) and opens doors in any industry. His commitment paid off as he landed the job he had worked hard to secure. ???? But the construction industry is his desired outcome.?His story is a shining example of how dedication can lead to career success, inspiring us all to strive for our goals. In construction, showing such dedication is a game-changer. It's not just a signal to employers that you’re serious, resilient, and ready to go the extra mile but also a key to career advancement. Expanding my perspective on things is something I constantly try to work at. Have you sat back and thought about how BIG the entire world truly is compared to the small area that you live in? Whoa - am I right?? A person with an expanded perspective has: 1. Reduced Prejudice 2. Enhanced understanding and empathy. 3. Better problem solving skills 4. Strong personal growth 5. Increased Cultural Awareness 6. Enhanced Communication Skills One way I've been able to expand my perspective is by joining Civista's DEI Council. The things we talk about in this group can push me right out of my comfort zone, very quickly. But, I always leave a meeting with a new outlook and that feels GREAT. Most recently, we learned about the city of Columbus's housing situation. It was a difficult presentation to sit through. I cried, I felt angry, I even felt guilty at times. When it was all said and done, it stuck with me and that is okay. We don't always have to do things just because we've always done them a certain way. It is a GOOD thing to step out of your comfort zone and LEARN. #expandyourperspective #empathy #embracediversity #openmindedness

Richard Johnson and Professor Sankalp Chaturvedi of Imperial College Business School used results from the 2022 Staff Survey to help their colleagues excel in their careers and feel more included. The problems? ?? Issues with career development and progress ??? Calls to improve culture and inclusivity The solutions: ?? A secondment programme encouraging applications for project work, maternity cover roles, or sabbaticals ?? All staff meetings to showcase career development opportunities ?? Forming an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee ?? Working with the The PhD Project to create more diversity in the workplace ? Launching a PhD scholarship scheme for students of Black heritage Richard Johnson, Faculty Operating Officer, at Imperial College Business School, said: “I think the staff survey has given us a good snapshot and overview about how staff are feeling.
