Heading home from a productive day at the Action against Medical Accidents specialist #clinicalnegligence panel meeting today having heard… - a detailed explanation of the change from the Serious Incident Framework (SIF) to the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and what these changes mean in practice, including the removal of a mandatory serious incident threshold. The change is meant to offer Trusts greater autonomy and the ability to respond to specific circumstances proportionately, but care must be taken to ensure that this does not allow serious patient safety events to slip through the net. - a very powerful talk about #Marthaslaw and the heart wrenching story of Martha’s care that led to this important change giving patients a right to obtain a second opinion. Interesting to hear that the US has this model as a cost saving approach so hopefully it will be positive for the #NHS from a budgetary perspective as well as for families to give them a louder voice in challenging circumstances. - a thoughtful talk from Dr Linda Kenward about second harm in the healthcare harm context (particularly poignant after hearing an interview with Martha’s mum where she set out the trauma of knowing something was wrong but not being heard), treatment options and the need to work in a trauma informed way. As always, lots of learning and a great opportunity to catch up with the team, but with the added bonus of seeing the Christmas lights in Covent Garden! Ensuring medication compliance is vital for patient health and well-being. By enhancing communication, we can significantly improve adherence rates. This involves clear and consistent dialogue between healthcare providers and patients, utilizing technology for reminders and follow-ups, and educating patients on the importance and benefits of their medication regimen. Additionally, personalized support and addressing individual barriers can foster a more collaborative and supportive environment, ultimately leading to better health outcomes. #Healthcare #PatientCare #MedicationCompliance

Episode 6 is out today, and we’re diving into the emotional toll of malpractice litigation on healthcare providers. It was an absolute honor to collaborate with Dr. Gita Pensa, M.D. a compassionate advocate who has helped countless individuals navigate this undeserved shame and trauma. However, she also revealed that healthcare providers are often unprepared for the challenges they face. In this insightful clip, Dr. Pensa sheds light on how the malpractice system in the US creates a conflict between healthcare providers and patients, hindering healing interactions and communication. This adversarial approach portrays healthcare providers as villains, not only in the eyes of the plaintiff but also in their own minds, despite their genuine care and concern. Is there a better way to seek accountability and care for both patients and healthcare providers? Hearing her perspective was deeply healing for me, and I believe the entire conversation offers valuable insights. I encourage you to take the time to listen to the full episode here. https://lnkd.in/gT4VXV9n #malpractice #litigation #healthcare #shame #lawsuits #physicianwellness

Conversations with patients experiencing violence or exploitation require sensitivity and care. That’s why HEAL Trafficking, in partnership with Pacific Survivor Center and CommonSpirit Health, developed the PEARR Tool — a trauma-informed approach to assist healthcare professionals in supporting individuals who may be affected by abuse, neglect, or trafficking. The PEARR steps — Provide Privacy, Educate, Ask, Respect, and Respond — empower patients while respecting their autonomy. This tool guides professionals in creating safe, supportive environments for patients to share their experiences and access resources. As we continue Human Trafficking Awareness Month, we encourage healthcare providers to incorporate tools like PEARR into their practice to foster safety and trust. Let’s work together to ensure no opportunity to provide care and support is missed.
