Today, we honor and celebrate our Veterans, not just on Veterans Day but every day. At Hello Neighbor, we are proud to support Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders who served alongside U.S. forces overseas. Many of our SIV neighbors in Pittsburgh are Afghan allies who risked everything to support our troops. They’ve made incredible sacrifices, and we are honored to have them as part of our community. We extend our gratitude to Veterans and Veteran groups who support our mission and invite all Veterans to join us in welcoming these brave individuals as they begin their new lives here. #VeteransSupport #Gratitude #Welcome #SIV #PittsburghCommunity

On National Indigenous Veterans Day, UNBC joins in honouring the remarkable contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Veterans who have courageously served Canada in conflicts from the World Wars, through to Afghanistan and peacekeeping missions. A commemorative gathering for students, faculty and staff will be held in the Doug Little Lounge from 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., featuring information displays and a space to share written thoughts and tributes. Indigenous Peoples served at higher rates per capita than many other groups in Canada and distinguished themselves – as snipers and scouts in the First World War and Cree-speaking code talkers were instrumental in disrupting enemy communications in WWII. Despite their skill and acts of bravery, Indigenous Veterans faced racism, discrimination, unequal recognition and compensation. Many veterans returned home to find they’d lost their Indian status* during extended service, while others were required to surrender it to access veterans’ benefit. As we walk the path of Truth and Reconciliation, Indigenous Veterans Day is one step in acknowledging these historical wrongs, honouring the invaluable contributions of Indigenous Peoples’ participation in military service and paying tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Veterans make up 6.1% of the US population and have served during wartime and in peacetime, with roughly one-third having served in the Vietnam War, one-quarter in the Gulf War, and 28% serving since 9/11. The percentage of veterans alive today who served in World War II is less than 0.2%. While the vast majority of veterans are US citizens, citizenship is not a prerequisite for enlistment; as of 2015, noncitizens made up less than 1% of veterans.

GovTech Product Leader | Army Reservist | Transforming government service through products, people, and policy for AI and cloud
"America needs veterans to tell their stories. A society disconnected from foreign policy is not good. We risk waging expensive wars and impacting countless lives in minute and monumental ways for little benefit to society. While I firmly believe that the all-volunteer force is a good thing for America, it must be balanced by society understanding military service. Today, the military is in a?recruiting crisis. Even the veterans who served over the last twenty years in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria are?less supportive?of their children serving because the social contract between the military and society is not worth it. America needs a strong military, but if Americans no longer believe that the government will be good custodians of their service or lives, they will not volunteer to serve. So, tell war stories on Veterans Day. Talk to your colleagues and neighbors about your service. Give the military a face and a name. Help Americans understand what military service is all about and why our foreign policy matters." Today is Veterans Day, commemorating Armistice Day at the end of World War I. There are 15.8 million veterans alive in the US today, a figure representing 6.1% of the adult US population. Veterans have served during wartime and in peacetime, with roughly one-third having served in the Vietnam War, one-quarter in the Gulf War, and 28% serving since 9/11. The percentage of veterans alive today who served in World War II is less than 0.2%. While the vast majority of veterans are US citizens, citizenship is not a prerequisite for enlistment; as of 2015, noncitizens made up less than 1% of veterans. There are no known living veterans from World War I; the last known US soldier from that war was laid to rest in 2007.

Empowering Mid-Career Professionals | Founder of LTL Academy & Op Belonging | 4 x Career Transition Books | From Soldier to Scholar | Mission to develop talented individuals who become influential leaders.
Community integration is a vital aspect of a cohesive and inclusive society, irrespective of individuals' colour and nationality. The experiences of individuals like Ahmed Sasso MBE , who has dedicated over 30 years to the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, and District Commander Chris Douglas, a former Royal Marines, underscore the importance of supporting service leavers and veterans in their transition to civilian life. By linking initiatives such as #OPNOVA, #OPCOURAGE, and #OPRESTORE, there is an opportunity to prevent foreign and commonwealth military personnel and their families from facing challenges during their career transition and help them integrate into communities. The narrative of foreign and commonwealth troops and veterans struggling to integrate into communities can be changed. It is not about the system but the people behind it. No individual who has served and sacrificed for their country should be left feeling like a refugee. The collective effort under #OPBELONGING, the social arms of Leavers to Leaders is a testament to the fact that we are stronger together. #opbelonging #leaverstoleaders #careerdevelopment #Commonwealth #ltlacademy #military #gurkha #britisharmy #royalmarines #royalnavy #royalairforce

Women in the military are treated differently than the men. They are often overlooked and don't get much of what they are entitled to. When they leave the military, they often have no idea where they can get guidance and financial help. https://lnkd.in/eCm-s2Y8 is the place for them to start. Project Help can give them a hand, when they most need it. #femalemilitary #support #projecthelp

??Today, we honor Indigenous veterans who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). ???? Indigenous soldiers have made remarkable contributions to the CAF throughout its history, and continue to do so today. They have done this despite often experiencing discrimination and a lack of recognition for their service. ??Organizations like the Indigenous Veterans Initiative by Last Post Fund | Fonds du Souvenir helps commemorate Indigenous veterans. However, many veterans face hardships once they leave the armed services, so more must be done to integrate and empower these veterans within Canada.
