We are launching a new #fundraisingcampaign. This project will build a cinema space in the Vavylove village, Shevchenkove community, Mykolaiv Oblast in order to support socialization, community building, and non-formal education. Goal — 5000 USD. That's why such projects are very important to achieve sustainability. Active young people plan to create a cinema space at the village club. Svitlana Kondratieva, the head of the club, says that in the 1970s, the club used to have a movie theater. At that time, watching movies together was popular. When Svitlana told the young people about it, they said that they regretted that they could not gather for movie screenings and discussions today. They got excited about the idea of reviving the village theater. They dream that the first movie they will watch in the renovated cinema space will be a modern Ukrainian film. The young people plan to watch movies and then discuss them and, for example, play board games. Your support is very important to us. In 1984, Band Aid and Live Aid marked a moment in history when music took on a higher purpose. A pop song raised millions for famine relief in Ethiopia and saved countless lives. For me, Feed the World was the first record I ever bought, and like many, I remember its message of hope and solidarity (although at the time - age 4 I just wanted to feed those starving children). It pricked consciences and mobilised action in a way that was unprecedented. Fast-forward to today, and I’m seeing a backlash against Band Aid’s legacy—criticised for being patronising, colonialist, or tied to a “white saviour complex.” Even Ed Sheeran, who participated in a recent remix, wishes he hadn’t been involved. (Full disclosure I dislike Ed Sheeran even more than Coldplay. Both are band from the office Sonos, but that is another post ??) I fully support critical thinking and understand the importance of addressing colonial legacies and promoting dignity in charitable work. But let’s not lose sight of the bigger picture. At its core, Band Aid was a purpose-driven movement. It wasn’t perfect, but it saved lives. Purpose-led campaigns—whether charitable like Band Aid or ESG-focused by brands—will always invite scrutiny. And that’s fine. But when criticism becomes an exercise in nitpicking, it risks undermining genuine efforts to do good. We need to balance reflection with action. Could Band Aid have done more to promote African voices and avoid stereotypes? Of course. But it also catalysed global awareness and resources in a way that transformed lives. As brands invest in purpose and ESG, they face similar dilemmas: how to drive meaningful change while avoiding accusations of virtue signalling or unintended harm. The lesson? Imperfection is inevitable. What matters is sincerity, transparency, and results. Charity and purpose will always be complex, but I firmly believe that raising money for people in need—in Band Aid’s case, starving children—is as good a cause today as it was in 1984. It is time for education sector to be restructured.

Hello, connections! TLDR; I'm running a full marathon to fundraise for Teach For Malaysia. Read on if you want to know what I've been up to & how you can make a difference together with me. "The only time you should look in your neighbour's bowl is to make sure that they have enough." These words I heard as a kid changed forever how I viewed myself, others, and society at large. 4 years ago, I made a decision to kick-start my career in a non-profit organisation called Teach For Malaysia. Words cannot do justice to the eye-opening & transformative experience I have gone through here. During these 4 years, I have been exposed to the harsh realities of many children in Malaysia who struggle to attain basic, let alone quality education. A study in 2022 by OECD revealed that Malaysia suffered one of the worst learning losses during the pandemic among 81 countries. The truth is, right now, the way education is done is not setting up our students for success, and it is especially true for children from high-risk communities - and if we were to leave it as it is, the gap would only get bigger! As gloomy as it seems, I have also had the opportunity to witness first-hand the impact that a group of passionate individuals collectively can have to tip the scales of communities who have the odds against their favour - much like what Teach For Malaysia is doing to empower individuals and communities on the ground. More than ever, we need the kindness of everyday Malaysians to join the cause and be part of the solution in standing against social inequity. If you must appreciate the acts of a volunteer, first understand his heart. For me, the heart of Tunde Onakoya and the Chess in Slums Africa is not to carve a name for themselves, it's in seeing that children that seemingly appear underserved, get to experience the beauty of shared learning. To help them do this, please look closely at the picture and drop a support. You can also ensure that every picture you share, points your audience to how they can come in. Don't get me wrong, bask in the excitement of 60hours of a record broken (another great time to be a Nigerian), but also keep in mind that there's also a million dollar target. As your share your lessons learned, please use your platform to point people to the heart of this project. ....
