Perhaps! — Let me tell you about the time that I "co-founded" a company called ??????????. In my second year of high school at?Pathways Academy of Technology and Design, a group of us Sophomores had the opportunity to attend an?Aerospace and Engineering?career fair. I walked around to some of the different booths with two of my friends, J and B. We walked around, talked to companies, obtained business cards, and got candy & free electronics from the booths. And?that’s?when we saw it:?A table. But this wasn’t just any table. On it, we found a printer. Next to the printer was a stack of cards that said “Empty” (pictured below), along with papers, a map of the building we were in, pens, pencils, and a little plastic card stand. After getting what we could out of the career fair, B, J, and I decided to set up our own "booth" at this table as a playful social experiment. We called our company “Empty” because of the “Empty”-labeled cards we found. We gave these cards out to people who visited our booth. We came up with our initial pitch; our company Empty? sold printers, and that the printer at our booth table was an example of what we sell. On the back of some of the papers that we found, we had people put their names & emails down to be put on the Empty? email list. The “pitch” escalated each time we had visitors, from selling printers, to selling basically anything like pencils, phones, computers, etc… The escalation got to a point where B would tell the visitors something along the lines of, “… and even the phone that you’re holding, and the pencil that you’re using; those were made by Empty?!” ...So that was the time that I utilized a “fake it ’til you make it” approach. ?????? ???? ????????????. The teachers from our school who chaperoned the group of us on the trip?had?stopped by our table. And after the fair, one of the teachers, Mr. R, asked which one of has had started it; who was the one in charge of “Empty”. Since it was B (I?was just the secondary “co-founder”/helper), we said that it was B, and Mr. R said something along the lines of that it might not’ve been the right??????????to do something like that... but expressed that we utilized good skills in marketing, leadership, and creativity.

This event is intended to introduce MCPS students to a broad array of industries and job types. All are welcome - large and small, for profit and not-for-profit, public, or private sector.
