16 September is World #OzoneDay. An environmental success story: With ozone expected to return to pre-1980 values by the 2060s over the Antarctic, the healing of the ozone layer is an example of how the world can come together to tackle global challenges and secure #OurCommonFuture. UNEP explains why this invisible shield is critical to combat the climate crisis and to protect all life on Earth: https://lnkd.in/eqrybDiH

Robert Bordelon, an EESC Ph.D. student, and his advisor, Dr. Jorge Villa @wetlandlab, are co-authors in a paper recently published in Remote Sensing describing the application of a vegetation classification method based on satellite imagery. Their work goes beyond demonstrating how its application can help reduce uncertainty in predicting greenhouse gas emissions from coastal wetlands. #wetland, #GHG, #marsh, #methane. https://lnkd.in/dy8sZxY5

????? The Power of Remote Sensing in Decoding Intermittent Rivers ???? Ever wondered how many rivers flow only part of the year? Intermittent rivers, making up at least half the world's river lengths, are crucial biodiversity hotspots and provide essential services that communities depend on. Yet, interpreting their hydrology has always posed significant challenges ???? This week's GeoCorner post delves into how remote sensing technologies can help us better understand these systems. ???? As our climate changes, so must our strategies for managing these resources. Remote sensing emerges as a tool and a vital call to action, urging researchers, policymakers, and community leaders to forge a sustainable future for our waterways. ?? Dive into the technology and techniques shaping the future of hydrology, one pixel at a time. ?? ?? Could you be sitting on a gold mine of data? We estimate that around a fifth of the Earth's ocean map is locked away in archives. National governments hold hundreds of bathymetric data sets. By unlocking existing data, we can accelerate ocean mapping in support of the Blue Economy and our shared global mission to map the entire ocean floor by 2030. Find out how you can help to identify and submit valuable archived data ?? seabed2030.org/governments #Bathymetry #Hydrospatial #OceanData #BlueEconomy

? What is #EarthObservation? Why is it important? What can we do with the data? And who is making this data accessible and usable for all? Hear from Yana Gevorgyan, director of the Group on Earth Observations Secretariat ? #EarthIntelligenceforAll
It’s vital to make Earth observation data widely accessible, says Yana Gevorgyan Earth observation could add $3.8 trillion to global GDP by the end of the decade.
