Since I started writing about my ADHD journey, one of the most essential topics for me was to challenge preconceived notions of ADHD Here are ?? ?????????????? Why Redefining ADHD in Adulthood Can Transform Your Self-Perception For years, ADHD has been boxed into stereotypes - seen as a childhood condition, limited to hyperactivity or a lack of focus. But what if the lens we use to view ADHD is outdated, especially in adulthood? Redefining ADHD as an adult isn’t just about labels; it’s about reclaiming self-understanding and growth. Here are 5 reasons why shifting your perspective on ADHD can change how you see yourself: 1?? ???????? ?????????? ??????’?? “????????????” - ????’?? ???????? ?????????? ??????????????????????. ADHD doesn’t mean failure or inadequacy. It means your mind processes the world uniquely, with strengths like creativity, hyper-focus, and adaptability often hidden behind traditional misconceptions. 2?? ?????? ???????? ???? ???????????????? ???? ???????? ???????? - ?? ????????. Many adults with ADHD internalise shame from being labeled “lazy” or “disorganised.” Understanding ADHD reframes these traits as challenges of executive function, not a reflection of your character or effort. 3?? ????’?? ?????? ???????? ?????????? ?????????????????? - ????’?? ?????????? ????????????????????. ADHD impacts emotional regulation, time management, and decision-making. Recognizing this can unlock tools to work with, rather than against, these tendencies. 4?? ?????????????????? ???? ?????? ?? ??????????; ????’?? ?? ??????. Learning about ADHD can open the door to strategies, support, and environments where you thrive, rather than struggle to conform to one-size-fits-all systems. 5?? ????????-???????????????????? ?????????????? ?? ????????????????????. Redefining ADHD in adulthood teaches you to replace self-criticism with understanding. It’s a shift from asking, “What’s wrong with me?” to “What works best for me?” The journey of unlearning societal stigma and embracing your unique neurodiversity can be life-changing. Whether you’ve been diagnosed recently or have long suspected you’re navigating the world with ADHD, give yourself the permission to see it through a new lens. What have been your biggest takeaways in understanding ADHD - either personally or through others? #ADHD #Neurodiversity #SelfGrowth #MentalHealthAwareness #AdultADHD

?? October is ADHD Awareness Month! ?? As someone diagnosed with ADHD Combined Presentation in my 30s, I’ve come to realize just how many myths are out there about this condition. Let’s break a few of them down! ?? Myth 1: Only boys have ADHD ?? Boys may be diagnosed more often, but ADHD affects everyone! About 4.2% of girls receive a diagnosis at some point. ADHD doesn’t care about gender—it affects us all! Myth 2: Bad parenting causes ADHD ?? ADHD is NOT caused by parenting! ?? Brain-imaging studies show differences in brain structure and wiring that impact attention, impulse control, and motivation. It’s science, not upbringing. Myth 3: People with ADHD just can’t concentrate ?? It’s not about never being able to focus—it’s about what we focus on. When we're passionate or intrigued, concentration happens! Hyperfocus can be a superpower, but it's selective. For me personally, things like housework, losing things, and feeling overwhelmed were major challenges. I used to let everything pile up, then blitz the house in one exhausting day. ?? What’s helped me? Breaking tasks into smaller chunks—doing 1 or 2 things daily instead of all at once. ??? Other game-changers: ?? Staying hydrated ?? Making lists ??♀? Scheduling downtime ?? Limiting screen time ?? Focusing on the now ADHD comes with its challenges, but there are ways to manage it and thrive. ?? Let's continue raising awareness and understanding! #ADHDAwareness #BreakTheStigma #ADHDJourney #MentalHealthMatters #ADHDLife #Pharmaron

?? ADHD is over-diagnosed and over-treated. This myth is common online because more people are being diagnosed with ADHD. ?? The old DSM focused on hyperactivity, distractibility, and inability to focus. ?? The new DSM includes more criteria, helping us better understand ADHD. (It still doesn’t do a great job, but it’s getting better). We still miss many girls who aren’t hyperactive and smart individuals who know how to compensate for their symptoms. ?? It also overlooks those who work twice as hard to achieve half the results. ?? With a better understanding of ADHD and knowing that 70% of patients aren't hyperactive, we can more easily identify ADHD in individuals. Emotional Dysregulation, can at times, be one of the only impairing symptoms. When we know this, it helps us understand what else we want to be looking for. ?? Instead of the 3%-5% we previously thought, we now know that closer to 10% of the population has ADHD. This is thanks to the updated DSM, amazing doctors who have helped us understand better what to look for, and improved diagnostic criteria. Have ADHD or a child who has ADHD? Need support? Understanding ADHD is the first step in making an informed decision on taking your first step in your ADHD journey. ADHD can look different in different people - this is because there are various types of ADHD. Hyperactive and Impulsive type ADHD features symptoms like fidgeting, an inability to stay seated, incessant talking, and a tendency to act without thinking. The emphasis is more on hyperactivity and impulsivity rather than inattention. Inattentive type ADHD is characterised mainly by difficulties in sustaining attention, following through on tasks, and organising activities. People with this type of ADHD are often forgetful, easily distracted, and may overlook details. Combined type involves a combination of symptoms from both of the above types. People with Combined Presentation ADHD exhibit both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive behaviours. ??? ADHD Awareness Month Spotlight:??Living with ADHD: When Everything Screams "Important!"??? As we celebrate ADHD Awareness Month, let's talk about a challenge that rarely makes headlines but affects countless students and professionals with ADHD: The Prioritization Problem. Picture this common scenario in the ADHD brain during study sessions: Professor: "This will be on the exam." ADHD Brain: "Write it down!" Professor: tells an interesting story ADHD Brain: "This too!" Professor: mentions a random fact ADHD Brain: "EVERYTHING IS IMPORTANT!" This isn't just about being thorough – it's about how our ADHD brains process information. When everything feels equally significant, taking effective notes becomes like trying to create a highlight reel where every moment is a highlight. Reality Check: We're not "bad at studying" We're not "easily distracted" We're dealing with a brain wiring that sees the potential importance in EVERYTHING This ADHD Awareness Month, let's normalize talking about these lesser-known challenges. The prioritization struggle isn't a character flaw – it's a genuine aspect of how our brains work. Tag someone who needs to hear this today. Sometimes just knowing we're not alone in this makes all the difference. ?? #ADHDAwarenessMonth #ADHD #NeurodiversityAtWork #StudyingWithADHD #ADHDCommunity #NeurodiversityAwareness #MentalHealthAwareness ????
