Can you spot the women at #COP29? ? Only 6 out of 78 government leaders mentioned the impact of climate change on women and girls. ? 4 of the 6 were women. Yet, women play key roles in advancing #ClimateAction. ?♀? We need women's equal representation at the decision-making table. ?? Photo: UN Climate Change - Kiara Worth
This highlights the critical need for diversity and inclusion. Women's perspectives and experiences are essential for effective climate action. Studies show: ?? ?Diverse teams make better decisions ?? ?Women-led climate initiatives prioritize community and social justice ?? ?Gender equality boosts innovation and economic growth Women's equal representation at the decision-making table is not just a moral imperative but a strategic necessity. We must: 1.? ?Promote women's leadership in climate policy 2.? ?Ensure inclusive and diverse decision-making processes 3.? ?Support women-led climate initiatives Let's amplify women's voices and prioritize their participation.
Women are essential to driving effective #ClimateAction. It’s time for equal representation and for voices that understand the unique impact of climate change on #women and girls to lead the conversation. Together, let’s push for change! #COP29
I can spot 7 women? Out of 70+ it's less than 10%? Why such less representation? Where are our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends etc...world population is 50+ women. Shocking? We need A Seat at the table at #Cop29
At Rural Focus Zambia-RUFOZ, we believe that true climate action can only be achieved when all voices are heard and valued equally. Women's leadership and participation are essential in addressing the climate crisis, as they bring unique perspectives and solutions rooted in community resilience and sustainability. The unequal representation of women at COP29 is a missed opportunity for transformative change. We stand with UN Women in advocating for equal representation and urge decision-makers to prioritize inclusivity in all climate forums. Women must not only have a seat at the table but also have their contributions amplified and implemented in global climate strategies." #WomenInClimateAction #EqualRepresentation #COP29
The climate crisis disproportionately affects women, yet their voices remain underrepresented in key decision-making spaces. While a small number of leaders acknowledged this, the fact remains that women, especially in vulnerable communities, bear the brunt of climate impacts. Their leadership and perspectives are vital in crafting solutions that are both effective and equitable. It’s not enough to have women at the table—we need to ensure they are shaping the decisions that will determine our collective future.
Yes indeed women need to be represented in these sessions & not only for the numbers - for sharing their lived experiences on how climate change is affecting their bodies (health) their homes (humanity & their ability to make a living (economy). The question is, do the invitations reach their offices and homes (as majority work from home - out fo choice and out of necessity). We hope that in the next sessions the invitations will be extended further and wider.

Women indeed play a key role in advancing climate action!
It is extremely important to bring female voices to the Climate debate. In the developing parts of the world, where people live close to nature, women in daily life live closer to the edge of climate change than men. Take a basic example like a family meal. In Africa for example, men most of the time would not even know what their family meal anytime of the day will be. It is women who plan what the family eats. Most of the time this starts way back from planning crop planting, harvesting, processing and cooking the meal. Women (their views, experiences, voices) are therefore critical in any climate agenda. The climate agenda needs to be framed with women in mind.
