They call it Posiedon's Rage. It's an attraction at Mt. Olympus Water Park in Wisconsin Dells, and last summer we decided to give it a try after a day doing everything else there. We'd been on Medusa's Slidehweel twice (very cool, surreal water tube family ride). Lounged in the wave pool. The rest of the family retreated back into the resort, and my youngest son and I said, sure, let's try Posiedon's Rage. Well. You're standing in the water, and you see this wall of...water...come at you, and then all of a sudden it's raised to 9 feet tall, and, SMACK. Absolute overwhelm. I'm sure I drank the whole thing. Not very fun. Disoriented, I went to sit down while my son - who loved it - faced down several more of these onslaughts. After a while, watching from the outside, it was all predictable. The wave started every 5 minutes or so, grew to full height, and overwhelmed the people. From the outside - watching - cyberattacks seem pretty predictable. After the event, or even while it's happening, common themes emerge. Easy to see what went wrong and why when the analysis comes in. Those cyberattacks - we know they're happening to others. We may even know why. And cybersecurity practitioners work to help us prevent them - at least prevent them from being easy. That wave? Say it's metaphorically even 5 minutes now - will soon be continuous. The attacks don't have to be successful that frequently. There are changes we Internet users can make to our behaviors, both at home and at work. Strategically and tactically. They used to say we surf the Internet. Guess we'll find out. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I'm Heather Noggle, and I write about cybersecurity using stories, emphasizing how keeping cybersecurity top of mind can help you and the people you know navigate our Internet-driven future. Hi Heather, Do you know anything about worldwide cyber-attacks in the future that will even shut down electricity? How is that possible?
Your story reminded me of this https://www.history.com/news/the-rise-and-fall-of-action-park-new-jerseys-most-dangerous-water-park
Great storytelling here, Heather Noggle! I don't think I'd be too keen to try out Poseidon's Rage myself (actual waterpark or metaphorical cyber attack)?? Grateful for the awesome work of those like you who help inform and protect us!

2 年This is a good way to describe being in the mist of a cyber attack. Everything looks ok and normal and then bam. It is all over you.
