What's a good school, in your opinion? Here's our take. A place where learning closely meets individual values; A warm community where we forgive and repair relationships if broken; A place where any mistake is just a new lesson added to a long string of experiences; A place where only time travel is impossible - at least until we find out it isn't; A place where diversity doesn't divide us but unites us; A place where each of us can be unique, where we are all authentic in being different; A place where we learn not only formulas or facts but many interesting things about the world around us and how we can live a happy and fulfilling life. In the following days, we will take you on a virtual journey and show you what a day in the life of a student at Transylvania College looks like. Until then, what makes a good school for your children? ??

Corporate College recently had the incredible opportunity to host executive leaders from 100 Black Men of America, Inc. for their executive leadership retreat. I had the privilege of leading a session titled "Education's Post-Pandemic Evolution: What We Provide Matters," and later joined Herman Bulls, vice chairman and international director at JLL, to discuss "Organizational Leadership, Governance, and Impact." Educational leaders, how do you see the role of education evolving in the post-pandemic world??
Cuyahoga Community College's Corporate College recently hosted executives from 100 Black Men of America, Inc., for their annual retreat. We’re proud to announce that we are exploring an opportunity to further partner with 100 Black Men of America through their Collegiate 100 program, a campus-based student organization that supports the development of the social, emotional and educational needs of youth who need positive role models. We can’t wait to see this program uplift our community!

Wow. 8 years ago today, a young Daniel with butterflies in his stomach moved onto campus at the University of the Cumberlands. His heart was tense as he wondered what to expect and whether he would enjoy the new sensation. Before he knew it, young Daniel met some of the most incredible people in my life who significantly impacted me. Before he knew it, young Daniel was involved with groups and departments throughout campus that significantly impacted his future, including being the college mascot—Pete the Patriot! Some tips from my experience as a college alum and former college mascot: 1. Actively participate in extracurricular activities and take advantage of opportunities, but only a few simultaneously. 2. Seek help before a problem emerges. 3. Feel free to drop a class. 4. Stay healthy. Eat healthy and find the time to exercise. Doing so will help you more than you know. 5. Cultivate friendships with a small group of others you connect well with—it's easy to be friends with everyone on campus (especially if you or you build your way up to becoming an extrovert). Usually, your friend group gets smaller after college, and you become very closely connected with those few friends with whom you initially connected well (mine live in Knoxville, and I talk to them almost daily!). 6. Most importantly - think of your education as giving you skills that will help you make a positive mark on this world. I am thinking about all of the first-year students and all college students who are continuing their education this month. These are our emerging leaders who will make an impact on the world.
