Last week, our founder and CEO posted some of his story in the comments of one of our posts. We’re thrilled to be able to immortalize it in our feed. We couldn’t ask for a better leader than Mike, who never fails to prioritize the team he’s built throughout his life and career.
At fourteen, Mike started working in Nisku. At the time it was pumping gas, but that part-time job would be the beginning of a legacy. When he was 16, Mike was hired by Dave Kennedy from Commercial Bearing (now Motion Industries) as a summer student. When he finished high school, he started full-time there, learning more and more about the beating heart that is the Nisku Industrial Park. In 1993 (when he was just 23 years old) Mike co-founded Reliance Industrial Products, with his business partner Leo Farley. They sold specialty hoses and fittings that they assembled themselves with people questioning them every step of the way. To quote Mike’s father (and mentor) Andy Sirois: “You’re telling me you can make a living selling hose and fittings?” Eventually, that small operation became a household name for not only hose and fittings but also industrial supply, with 19 branches spanning North America. After 21 years in operation, Reliance was sold to Applied Industrial Technologies and Mike returned to his roots, founding Triumph Industrial Products. Once again, he was specializing in hose and fittings. And yes, he has made his living. All the while, building a 31-year (and counting) legacy, right here at home in the Nisku Industrial Park. Mike is still doing what he loves, proving that with determination and by surrounding yourself with people who believe in you, you really can do anything. And we can’t think of a better place to do what you love, than Nisku. Our Central Albertan Industrial Park, that has a proven history of persistently providing opportunities for home-grown small businesses to thrive.
