If you are looking for inspiration on a Friday afternoon on our environment , check out this fantastic speech by President Ursula von der Leyen at the #DLDNature Conference ?? ?? ?? ?? For me it was "stop what you are doing and listen" speech. Some key highlights were *We need a "fundamental rethink of the relationship of the economy and the natural world"? *We have "rewarded plundering of our natural environment, wrong from a moral point of view and a economic point of view" *"Farmers yields are falling due to soil degradation and the lack of insects. Fishing nets remain empty because fertilizers from the fields suffocate life in the water. Hydro and nuclear plants are going offline because of droughts. Trade along our waterways is being disrupted because our rivers are running dry. There is a clear case for preserving and restoring nature, an economic case" #NatureCredits were mentioned and how to "channel vital resources to those who are providing ecosystem services". #PEPH2024 Day 3 - That's a wrap. Visiting Research Triangle Park is a somewhat bizarre experience IRL. The buildings are huge, the areas surrounding the built environment are vast and security check-points cover every entrance/exit throughout the campus. At times the real-feel is more 'deserted 1970 time capsule' less uber-modern cutting edge tech/gov action zone. I find it interesting to 'absorb' the energy of a place and recognize how it makes me feel. These gigantic, mostly empty federal buildings make me feel small and kinda sad. A low-energy heaviness pervades the space. As I reflect on the environmental health workshops and individual & group discussions that took place over the past few days I am grateful for the hard work, authenticity and energy of the PEPH research community (of which I consider myself somewhat of an outsider). I think we all agree that there's still a lot more input energy needed (esp from non-research voices) to grow and sustain community-embedded environmental public health gains moving forward. Here's to taking PEPH lessons learned to heart and accelerating legit progress towards environmental justice in the year ahead. Don't let those gov buildings get you down! Onward!

Education: The Reconnect education program offers free certificates to those over 25, empowering lifelong learning and career advancement. Additionally, the state celebrates its rich educational history with the first public school and library. ?? Housing: Ambitious plans to create more affordable, equitable housing solutions, ensuring everyone has a place to call home. ???? Community and Talent: Committed to retaining and nurturing top talent by celebrating Massachusetts' rich history and investing in a vibrant community that includes where the first steel was originated. ?? ClimaTech: Look out for the upcoming ClimaTech conference in June, focusing on green technology and sustainable solutions. ?? AI Opportunities: Briefly touched on the exciting prospects in AI, with applications that could cure diseases, build out resiliency, and create vibrant opportunities while attracting top talent. ?? Semiconductor Hub: Proud to announce that Massachusetts has been awarded $19.7 million through the federal CHIPS and Science Act to establish the Northeast Microelectronics Coalition Hub, fostering microelectronics and semiconductor advancements and creating numerous jobs and training opportunities. ?? Historic Roots and Innovation: From the first library and school to leading VC investments, Massachusetts continues to be a beacon of progress and democracy. ?? Global Partnerships: Recent engagement with the Vatican to foster education and investments in green tech, promoting sustainable and equitable growth.
