One of the biggest questions that we get in our sessions is "What do I do with my hands?" We realize that the use of gestures is where we gain an audience's attention, or lose them for good! Below, we have a few MAJOR pointers to keep in mind as you think about your habitual gestures. 1. Try to avoid pointing out at the audience or to the slide deck. An open hand will come across much more approachable. 2. Be cognizant of where your hands are gesturing to. When standing in front of the room, make sure that they occupy the space outside of your body and above your waist. 3. Remember to relax those hands back down when you are done. We do not want to mislead that audience with stationary hands in the wrong place. While this is not every pointer we give for gesturing and it's efficiency, these are excellent places to start the analysis as you practice on your own.
