Job seekers, we’ve got something special for you! ?? Check out this standout student capstone project from our Tech Residency program, in partnership with Co.Lab ?? joincolab.io. Presenting Yeonjii, a generative AI-powered cover letter generator crafted by our talented software engineering graduates, Austin Beveridge, and Martin Ruthaivilavan. ? Here’s what they have learned during their Tech Residency program: Austin: “Adaptability was vital in navigating a dynamic project. Initially, using traditional libraries required a swift transition to modern frameworks based on evolving requirements. This experience enhanced problem-solving skills and highlighted the importance of adapting to the product manager's direction, product designers' visions, and backend developers' logic. Making real-time adjustments proved crucial, demonstrating adaptability beyond technology, and remains essential for success in the ever-evolving front-end development landscape.” Martin: “Team Collaboration and Skill Enhancement: Enhanced skills in collaborative work, particularly in backend architecture, keeping frontend integration in mind. Coordinated closely with front-end developers to seamlessly connect both systems with each new feature. Regularly engaged with the PM and PD to merge user research into technically feasible features, finding this integration process highly stimulating.” Join us in celebrating Austin and Martin’s achievement in developing a tool that can revolutionize the job search process for thousands of job seekers! ?? Hi everyone, My name is Ani, and I'm a visiting graduate research student at Dalhousie University. I'm conducting a study on the impact of generative AI on creativity and innovation in software development meetings. Are you interested in helping shape the future of software development? I'm seeking software engineering and technology companies in the Halifax area to participate in this research. Here's what involvement would entail: Team observations and interviews: We'd like to observe and interview software engineers, designers, product managers, project managers, data engineers, etc., during their regular meetings. This will help us understand how generative AI can influence your team's creativity and innovation. Benefits of Participation: Your company will be at the forefront of exploring this emerging technology. Our research findings can provide valuable insights into: - How generative AI can enhance brainstorming and problem-solving within your development teams. - The potential impact of AI on team communication and collaboration. - Strategies for successfully integrating generative AI into your software development workflow. If you're a company or an employee interested in learning more, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'd be happy to discuss the study in more detail and answer any questions you may have. Why Are Big Tech PhD Salaries Comparable to Software Engineers? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gt5ecYjA #TechSalaryInsights #PhDSalaries #BigTech Hey everyone! ?? I was just pondering something interesting about salaries in big tech, specifically at meta. So, my team is packed with folks who hold the title of "research scientist," and they all have PhDs. Naturally, I assumed they were raking in way more cash than I am as a Software Engineer (SWE). But after digging around, I found out that's not necessarily the case. ?? Here’s what I discovered on Levels.fyi: IC4 Software Engineer: $299k IC4 Research Scientist: $305k Wait, what? This seems a bit strange! I mean, shouldn’t research scientists, who typically have advanced degrees, be earning significantly more? ??♂? Moreover, there are fewer research scientists compared to SWEs, so wouldn't it make sense for them to command higher salaries? To add to the confusion, it appears that at the higher levels, research scientists tend to make even less. How does that work? Is Levels.fyi just not reflecting the real picture here? Are machine learning research scientists perhaps the only ones pulling in a significan...

?? Behind the Scenes: Who I Am and Where I'm Heading Hello everyone! As promised, today I'm sharing a bit about myself and my journey towards the tech dream. Buckle up, we're taking off! ?? ?Who am I? I'm Alessio, a Computer/Software Engineering student at Politecnico di Milano with an unbridled passion for technology. Oh, and I have a four-legged adventure companion: my beautiful guide dog! ???? ?My story with tech? It started when I was just a kid. Since then, I've created video games, launched e-commerce sites, experimented with AI, and even tried to become a serial entrepreneur (with ups and downs, but hey, who doesn't have a few flops on their resume? ??). ?My goal? To land an internship at a big tech company. Google, I'm looking at you! ?? But as in any good story, there are obstacles to overcome. Mine? Here they are: 1?? Technical preparation ???? I thought being good at programming was enough. Spoiler: it's not! ?? Big tech companies are looking for a way of thinking, not just coding. Data structures, algorithm complexity, rapid problem-solving... it's like preparing for the Coding Olympics! 2?? English ???? My relationship with English? Complicated. ?? Somewhere between B1 and B2, but aiming for a solid B2 before the interviews. Visual impairment hasn't helped (goodbye movies with subtitles), but it's not an excuse. Time to level up! ?? In the next post, I'll tell you how I'm tackling these #challenges and what I've been up to in this first week of preparation. Spoiler: it involves a lot of coffee and little sleep! ???? What about you? Have you ever faced similar challenges in your professional journey? Abby Miller - You are a great inspiration to so many college students who haven't created a clear path to success. By interning 3 times (and doing a great job with each internship) with Google you created a clear path and sent your future employer a clear message about where you wanted to be upon graduation. For the students out there... Create a strategy for yourself and don't just be random about what opportunities you pursue. Stick to your plan and remain consistent. Follow up with everyone you meet along the way to begin creating a great referral and endorsement network. Don't just dream...Do something to create the reality of that dream. Well done Abby!
I am excited to share that I have accepted an offer to join Google as a Software Engineer in New York City after graduating from Harvard this spring! Reflecting on my journey these past three summers at Google, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work on exciting projects across three teams: Search Ads, Cloud Security, and Developer Infrastructure. Each summer brought new challenges that pushed me to grow and learn. From building a full-stack compiler warnings feature for security analysts to creating new Search Ad features for millions of locations, Google has enabled me to challenge myself and make a tangible impact. Google’s welcoming, vibrant, and collaborative culture has been truly inspiring. The chance to work alongside brilliant minds, tackle high-impact challenges, and contribute meaningfully has kept me coming back each summer. I am deeply grateful to all my intern hosts and co-hosts, teammates, managers, recruiters, and mentors who have supported me along this journey. I can’t wait to continue working at Google full-time! #Google #SoftwareEngineer #NewYorkCity #ComputerScience?#SWE

"I Almost Missed My Top Tech Job—Here's What Changed Everything..." Self-doubt nearly cost me my dream career. Like many, I hesitated to apply to big tech companies. Why? I was confused about what they really wanted. My turning point came when I realized it wasn't about confidence, but clarity. I didn't know which questions they asked or what skills to focus on. So, I changed my approach: ? Mastered fundamental algorithms and data structures ? Joined coding communities for motivation and practice ? Sought feedback to improve my problem-solving skills This simple shift opened doors I thought were locked. Now, I'm thriving in a role I once thought was out of reach. What's holding you back from your dream job? Share your thoughts below. ?? #TechCareers #PersonalGrowth #CodingJourney ????

Today I want to talk about someone who has made a HUGE contribution to me and my business. And when I say we wouldn't be here without her, that is the full truth! The amazing, dedicated Lisa Utsett has built a giant chunk of the Hype HQ platform. I met Lisa when she was an intern at the Ada Developers Academy where we worked on a project together. Right away her passion for full-stack development, and excitement for learning shone through. As a long time engineering manager, I know what to look for in an ideal team member - teachable ( ? ), enthusiastic ( ? ), great problem solver ( ? ), perseverance ( ? ), work ethic and ownership ( ? and ? ). Lisa checks all the boxes, and she has experience with many many current tools and technologies (take a look at her profile and portfolio). I also know how difficult it is right now for junior folks to find work. Most job listings ask for 3+ years of experience and leave fantastic candidates like Lisa out in the cold. But I will tell you, they are capable of building incredible things. I bet on that myself by having Lisa (and more junior folks I will talk about soon) build my own product. ?? So, hiring managers, #hirejuniordevs and everyone in my network, PLEASE RESHARE and let's get Lisa some job leads! ?? #lookingforwork #frontenddevs #fullstack #adies #womenintech #developerjobs
