In the world of audiology, there are three and four-year doctoral programs. The past few years have given rise to more universities transitioning from four to three-year programs. I've heard people talk down on three-year programs while others sing their praises. This is my honest opinion of them. They are for some and not for others. While I'm sure they are all designed differently, they are fast-paced with a lot of information very quickly. Exams come at you fast, and how you learn plays a huge roll. I've also heard things mentioned about not as much clinic time for those in three-year programs. I'd like to personally put that to bed right now. I am a product of a three-year program, and the clinical experiences I received were excellent and covered all facets of the field. They included the following: Hearing Rehab Center (Private Practice), Salem Audiology Clinic (Private Practice), Oregon Health and Science University (Hospital), Educational Service District 112 (School Based, Vancouver, Washington), Willamette ESD (School Based, Salem, Oregon), Advanced Bionics, Research & Technology (Manufacturer), Providence Neurodevelopmental Center for Children, (Self-explanatory, Portland, Oregon), NHS Lothian (Public Hospital, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK), A Private Interoperative Monitoring Company (Portland, Oregon), Legacy Emanuel Medical Center (Portland, Oregon), and University of Chicago Medical Center (Chicago, IL). I had hands-on experiences and was a sponge, learning everything I could at each location. I had a phenomenal experience, being the second class ever to graduate from Pacific University in Oregon. This three-year program challenged me and pushed me to be better. I don't think three-year programs are bad at all. I just think when you're researching programs, you need to make the right choice of how you learn and the pace you can do so. Challenge yourself, but also be willing to rise to the challenge. #audiology #cochlearimplant #hearinghealth #hearingaids #ears #aud2b

Posts like these inside audiology groups on Facebook make my hands shake with frustration. https://lnkd.in/gBscxx9U? To everyone with APD, I am so sorry for the awful way our profession has treated you. Many do not know the harm they have done by caring more about our professional bickering than the needs of our patient. One day, audiology will realize that we lost as many people with APD to suicide as we have with tinnitus. Yes. It exists, and it can be measured. Yes, it can be treated. And yes, we cause psychological harm to our patients when we put our own profession’s childish arguments over the lived experience of the people who come to us for support. It isn't good enough. We must do better than this. #apdawareness #audpeeps #audiology #auditoryprocessingdisorder #APD.

Misconceptions can sometimes be hurtful, tricky and silly. ??Unfortunately they exist EVERYWHERE and will NEVER go away. ??They usually come from lack of knowledge, education and exposure. ??Misconceptions are everywhere it seems about the deaf/hard of hearing community ...AND they also exist regarding audiologists! ??I've been straight up told that I'm not a real doctor, that my job won't exist in a few years (15 years later I'm still here) and even that it's a fake profession addressing "nothing substantial." ?? Here are a few more - what have you experienced as an audiologist, TOD, SLP or Deaf Mentor? What did you think about audiology before you discovered it? ??Give a shout out to the fave part/s of your job or tag your fave audiologist!! ???????????? ID: White background with title in the center reading "Common Misconceptions about Audiologists" surrounded by graphics and labels including: Money bag - Just in it to make money, Surgical tools - they always recommend surgery, Two people bickering - They'll scold me about noise/music/hunting, Person with a walking cane - They only work with the elderly population, Tombstone - Audiology is a dying profession, Sound equalizer/tech equipment - They work with audio equipment/music sound systems. .... #Audiology #PediatricAudiology #DeafCulture #DeafCommunity #Deaf #DeafAwareness #HardOfHearingAwareness #HardOfHearingKids #ASL #SignLanguage #HearingHealthcare #DeafWorld #DeafPride
