This acquisition complements Newcomer’s existing presence in the area, where we serve families from locations in Colonie and Latham. This morning I had the pleasure of visiting one of our new funeral home clients , a 5th generation establishment that joined us in February. Meeting our partners in person is always a highlight for me. Historically, they’ve served their community by building relationships over generations, but they now recognize the need to explore new ways to connect with families. For new clients, I recommend starting with a one basic consumer journey. In the funeral industry, this often involves an aftercare journey where we reach out on meaningful dates in the first year—such as the deceased's birthday, death anniversary, and holidays. I describe it as “milk before meat,” but once they start, the insights and ideas begin to flow on how to enhance the experience with programs like ours. I enjoy listening to their pain points and challenges and together creating ideas for how to enhance their services to reach more families and provide better service. Often it doesn't take a lot. Small adjustments can go a really long way. Recently, this client hosted an Art Event for Memorial Day and started grief support groups in partnership with a local hospice organization, which is awesome. When I asked about their outreach methods, they mentioned traditional approaches like fliers and direct mail. Their eyes lit up when I explained how we can amplify these events using text messaging, sending images, video links, RSVP pages, and follow-up surveys. We discussed how leveraging these events can generate more preneed leads and use technology to create more meaningful connections. A lot of new ideas emerged from that meeting, and based on my experience with nearly 1,500 locations, I foresee substantial new business opportunities as well. Embracing new technology and approaches can be challenging, but with an open mind, the possibilities are incredible. I am deeply passionate about this work, helping both grieving families and the businesses that support them. When we succeed in both areas, pure magic happens. I LOVE IT.
