Lots of thoughts following this week's election, but I've arrived at this conclusion: IF WE WANT TO SEE SOCIAL CHANGE, IT SHOULD COME FROM THE WORKPLACE.

Effective leaders require the mental bandwidth to make sound judgements and clear decisions. ?? UK's governing party look likely to be not only booted out of office but demolished in tomorrow's elections, largely for their actions in power being perceived as being out of touch with the public, and their decisions lacking in quality judgement. ?? This is wholly unsurprising when you see this latest line of attack on their rival party leader. ?? Saying that you'd finish work (where possible) at 6pm on a Friday does not constitute 'part-time'. ?? Creating time and space in a high-pressure role to recharge and unwind with your family does not signify a lack of commitment, it signifies an understanding of the necessity of rest and downtime to high performance. ?? Viewing long hours as a badge of honor rather than a detriment to productivity is neither evidence-based nor sensible, and it demonstrates the disconnect of today's Tory party from a British public and a modern world that recognizes the importance of time with family and work-life balance. ?? #Productivity #Wellbeing #WorkLifeBalance #UKElections2024

With the U.S. presidential election just a day away, it’s hard to ignore the impact on employees, even in Canada. As political tensions rise and basic human rights are debated, conversations that used to happen at home are now spilling into the workplace, creating new challenges for employers. People leaders and HR often navigate tense situations and world events that impact their teams, both within and beyond their locations. No matter the outcome, strong reactions will be prevalent—both on social media and in real life, so it's important to stay grounded and encourage teammates to prioritize their mental health via their benefits, community support, taking time away from work, etc. Here are some tips for leaders navigating election stress and anxiety in the workplace. https://lnkd.in/g6U3Mu-C #ElectionAnxiety #EmployeeExperience #WorkplaceCulture #PsychologicalSafety #MentalHealth #USElections #Diveristy #Equity #Inclusion #inclusionFACTOR

This Fortune article from Paige McGlauflin covers some great territory about handling political conversations in the workplace this year. We've been knee-deep in this since 2016 though. It's a big, many-layered onion and there's probably rot in there. Companies asking managers to help with this makes me cringe as many already struggle with basic day-to-day management of team members. The big issue to address here is employee mental health. If employers monitor political talk at work, they should consider helping employees access therapists, counselors, tools, etc. to help them navigate the upcoming elections and issues. #employeementalhealth #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthatwork #politicsatwork #2024elections #politicalconversations #managertraining #managementtalks

The conversation about #workplacewellness absolutely requires employers to apply a #healthequitylens and the benefits are crystal clear. “Up to 80 percent of someone’s ability to live a healthy life is driven by nonmedical factors, such as their financial security, education, social support, and access to housing and food. What is encouraging to me is that we, as employers, can influence many of these factors by: -Offering comprehensive benefits. -Paying living wages. -Fostering psychologically safe workplaces. -Intentionally uplifting underrepresented groups through our culture and practices.” The piece about an equity focused #culture cannot be overstated. This is what CommonHealth ACTION has been focused on in workplaces throughout the country. What say you iOpening Enterprises and Isaiah PickensHaro, PhD (he/him)?
