Serge Chalhoub DVM, DACVIM is an amazing human being. He is also a celebrated and revered professor at UCVM and I am so grateful to call him a collague. He has cared for my own pets on multiple occasions. Is it his intellect, experience, credentials? Those are just the price of admission. What makes Serge an incredible professor, in addition to his academic achievements, is his creativity. Serge is willing to take a risk, and answer questions from a dinosaurs mouth, to share important information. He doesn't concern himself by what he "should" be, but works towards the goal - of educating and teaching. I have seen him partner with Soren Boysen, DVM, DACVECC , to engage students with skits, laughter, and diagnostic challenges to build clinical competence. Learning doesn't have to be boring. Fun is not antithetical to science. Data can be presented without a wall of 12 point text full of p-values on a powerpoint slide I wish everyone in a teaching capacity would channel a bit of Serge. Students would learn effortlessly. And, the teachers would have more fun too. The only remaining question is this: Does Rex have a gall bladder?
