By using the Kollmorgen NDC platform, almost any wheel configuration you can imagine is possible and already supported by the background software. ? Maximize Flexibility and Efficiency with Quad Vehicle Configurations When it comes to AGVs and AMRs, several wheel configurations are possible. The most common types include Quad Drive, Steer Drive, and Differential Drive. Let's examine the quad drive wheel configurations in detail: 1?? Wheel configuration nr 1 in the picture is the most commonly used because it is the most versatile and easy-to-control configuration. 2?? For any automated vehicle, the active wheel(s) must maintain contact with the surface at all times to ensure sufficient friction for safe and precise movements. 3?? In examples nr 1, 2, and 3, this is achieved by pressurizing at least one of the active wheels downward, often mechanically. 4?? This is not necessary for configuration nr 4, as all three wheels are always pressurized to the surface by the weight of the vehicle. By using the Kollmorgen NDC platform, almost any wheel configuration you can imagine is possible and already supported by the background software. We should formally define SAE Level 2+ to be a feature that includes not only Level 2 abilities but also the ability to change its travel path via intersections and/or interchanges. Level 2+ should be regulated in the same bin as SAE Level 3 systems. The reason is that I expect automation complacency to be a much worse problem --- be much harder to manage via driver monitoring --- once the car subjectively feels like a robotaxi feature to ordinary folks rather than a lanekeeping system.
