The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has finally dropped their 1033 Rule Making - there is a LOT there and a lot to talk about at Money20/20 next week but some initial thoughts: 1) Very clear rules on screen scraping 2) A set availability target for APIs - the fact it exists is good, the vagueness is less good 3) No 3500ms requirement (good), a vague 'commercial reasonable' performance standard (less good) 4) Clear statement there will be a Standards Setting Body (good), no specific mention of one (less good) 5) Requirements for developer interfaces and maintaining them - this is good but does open a compliance and governance can of worms (see 4) - but something we can help with immediately 6) Timelines have been pushed back - perhaps too generously for the large providers who arguably have everything set up already but April 1, 2026? 7) Opens the door to some of the product compliance issues we see for the UK and Australia market especially for some of the Reg Z providers - again, we have something to help there before it becomes a problem I'll be writing on this more over this week (I suspect) and I'll be talking about at Money 20/20 and will be happy to meet!
