We are all too aware of the current challenges facing access and delivery of care to patients in the community. Rather than focus on the negative messaging around collaboration between physicians and Nurse Practitioners, I would like to focus on the positive partnership/relations we can have as joint healthcare providers. As a #cardiology NP, I have had the good fortune over the years to work with many fantastic physicians who embrace and advocate for the role. The question I pose though: is there room for us in the community ?Providing and supporting patient care outside of the hospital setting? My specific patient population focuses on #cvd , think #riskfactor management, #heartfailure support and management and even #afib detection and management. The range of health issues we could use our knowledge and expertise to support traditional systems of healthcare delivery is broader than we often dare to acknowledge. Your thoughts and comments on this topic are appreciated ????

Absolutely agree, Professor Dorn. The inundation of meaningless tasks has been a persistent challenge in our profession, consuming valuable time and energy that could be better spent with patients. The prospect of AI stepping in to manage these repetitive and often redundant tasks is incredibly exciting. For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a medical practitioner is the opportunity to connect with my patients, to look them in the eye instead of furtive glances from my computer screen and to build a trusting relationship. This human connection is at the heart of effective healthcare. However, the endless administrative duties which seemed to increase yearly since I graduated have often impeded this connection. With AI handling the mundane, we can reclaim our focus on patient care. Imagine a world where physicians are liberated from the banalities of paperwork, where our primary role is to listen, empathize, and help our patients heal. AI can be our perfect companion in this transformation, streamlining workflows and eliminating inefficiencies, allowing us to humanize medicine once again. I look forward to the day when AI isn't just a tool, but a partner in delivering compassionate, patient-centred care. Here's to a future where healthcare is as personal and human as it is advanced and efficient.
So much of what we healthcare workers do is “utterly banal and pointless.” ? Physicians and APPs must process (and often sign) countless notifications, much of it junk and nonsense. ? Inpatient and OR nurses must document endlessly, including many things that no one will ever read. ? Schedulers still often ask each patient if they’ve traveled out of the country or?been exposed to anyone with COVID in the past 14 days. ? Front desk staff typically verify insurance and demographic information at each and every visit, even when the patient was just seen. ? We all hope that AI will magically eliminate all this drudgery. ? But, as Peter Druker famously said, "There is nothing quite so useless as doing with great efficiency something that should not be done at all.”

AI can help reduce unreasonable healthcare wait times by optimizing appointment scheduling systems to match patient needs with provider availability more efficiently. AI-driven diagnostic tools can expedite triage by quickly identifying urgent cases, and ensuring patients receive timely care. Predictive analytics can forecast patient demand, allowing healthcare providers to allocate resources more effectively and reduce bottlenecks. Additionally, AI-powered virtual assistants can provide patients with immediate responses to routine inquiries, freeing up medical staff to focus on more critical cases. #AI #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #investments https://lnkd.in/e-ABJjyG

Struggling with 'note bloat'? In 2023, healthcare professionals spent an average of 13.5 hours per week generating clinical documentation. Alcidion's Miya Noting introduces digital documentation templates to support clinicians and align with local care guidelines. This solution makes use of real-time #NLP to enrich the #patientrecord and minimise the #clinicaldocumentation burden. Clinicians at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said of Miya Noting, "Ward 11 love e-noting! It's so simple to use and saves so much time. It enables staff to spend more time with patients too. We're able to read the doctors' notes at the patients bedside when families request updates and there's no guessing game what the doctor or nurse before you have written! There's no chasing notes around the ward, no lost nursing files - all time saving on busy ward environments." See the solution in action during #DigitalHealthReWired at Alcidion's stand (C30)!
