Congratulations to East Liverpool City Hospital, member of Prime Healthcare Foundation for achieving the CMS 5 Star Rating for 2024!!! This outstanding rating reflects the high level of healthcare provided by ELCH physicians and employees for East Liverpool City Hospital patients. The CMS organization annually assigns star ratings to U.S. hospitals based on 46 hospital quality measures, which are divided into five quality categories: safety of care, mortality, patient experience, readmission rates, and timely and effective care. The CMS rating system was launched in 2016 to help patients and caregivers make informed decisions when selecting a hospital. Hospitals report quality data to the CMS through multiple reporting programs, and the data is reviewed and standardized to calculate hospital star ratings.

Are you paying attention? H.B. 350 creates a Delaware Hospital Cost Review Board, a public body established to carry out hospital budget reviews and approvals. It would replace local community hospital boards with one statewide board of paid political appointees who will make the healthcare decisions. Under the bill, Delaware’s adult acute care hospitals will face an immediate $360 million cut starting July 1 and the board created under the bill can make even more cuts to hospital resources. Lawmakers have asked hospitals how the $360 million in budget cuts will impact Delaware hospitals. To put this number into perspective, the Delaware Healthcare Association has shared that the number equates to more than 4,000 hospital jobs. DHA has proposed three alternatives to HB 350 that focus on transparency rather than political control: -Relieve pressure on the state budget by requiring hospitals to develop a proposal for state employee benefit contracting arrangements for savings on hospital costs. -Enhance transparency by requiring hospitals to submit several documents, including cost and price transparency reports, to the Healthcare Commission. -Establish a collaborative longer-term effort that will bring all stakeholders together to recommend improvements to Delaware’s healthcare delivery system. According to Reputation's 2024 Healthcare Report (US market), "five years ago, the healthcare industry received 643,000 reviews annually. By the end of 2023, that number soared to 1.61 million reviews annually, representing a striking 150% surge in the -five year period.” This is interesting from my perspective, as we've seen a massive increase in the volume of reviews received for Circle Health Group as we’ve embraced digitalisation and transformed our communication channels across all hospitals, with the volume of reviews pouring in nothing short of remarkable. In 2023, we received 14.8k reviews total across all of our hospitals with 12.1k of those coming from Google Reviews. That's an incredible growth of 710% vs. 2019 as a result of a multi-year project to increase patient feedback. And even better? Our local marketing teams are actively responding with an average 98% response rate for Google Reviews. Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its Critical Access Hospital Accreditation after an unannounced review in August of this year. This seal of approval indicates the hospital meets compliance with standards set by healthcare experts and providers in areas such as emergency management, environment of care, leadership, and more. The Critical Access Hospital Accreditation program is intended to improve access to healthcare in rural communities. New analysis from EY-Parthenon: How VBC can lead to stronger hospital finances ???? I was intrigued by the graph from Melinda Durr at EY-Parthenon (link in comments) that shows how switching from fee-for-service (FFS) to value-based care (VBC) can boost hospital profits over time. The graph shows: 1. Short-Term Impact: When hospitals first switch to VBC, their profits drop compared to FFS. This is because they need to spend money and make changes for VBC success. 2. Recovery and Growth: After the initial drop, hospitals that switch to VBC see their profits start to go up again. Over time, their profits can even become higher than if they had stayed with FFS. 3. Long-Term Benefits: In the long run, hospitals in VBC can achieve steady profit growth. By contrast, hospitals sticking with FFS might see their profits go down due to rising costs and declining reimbursement. 4. Better Care and Efficiency: VBC helps hospitals manage patient care better and reduce costs, which leads to better financial health and improved patient outcomes over time. In summary, switching to VBC might be tough at first, but it can lead to better hospital margins in the long run. It's also better for patient outcomes. Hospital financial performance remains stable halfway through 2024, according to the latest "National Hospital Flash Report" from healthcare consulting firm Kaufman Hall. The report analyzed actual and budget data from more than 1,300 hospitals. Overall, Kaufman Hall determined a median monthly operating index of 3.8% in July 2024. The monthly operating index grew slightly from June's 3.3%, after falling from 4.3% in May. https://lnkd.in/e8unrTqB
