Part 2 Celebrating Survivors: The Warriors Who Conquered Breast cancer survivors are a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. They represent hope for women who are still in the midst of their own battles and for those who may one day face a breast cancer diagnosis. Surviving breast cancer is not only about overcoming the physical challenges of surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation; it is also about enduring the emotional and psychological toll that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis. These brave women show us that survival is possible—that life after cancer can be rich, fulfilling, and full of new beginnings. They remind us of the importance of early detection, self-examinations, and routine screenings, as these are often the keys to beating breast cancer. Survivors are the living proof that awareness, medical advancements, and personal strength can converge to give life after diagnosis. I salute you all! #breastcancer #cancer #breastcancerawareness #october #survivor #breastcancerjourney #oncology

October is a crucial time for raising awareness about breast cancer, and this year, Breast Cancer Awareness month brings an important update for Ontario residents. As of October 8, 2024, the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) is extending its services to include individuals aged 40 to 49. If you fall into this age group, you are encouraged to discuss with your referring physician whether a screening mammogram is right for you. Dr. Belton, Chief of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH), emphasizes the significance of early detection: “Early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer. We encourage everyone in this age group to consider getting a screening mammogram. This proactive step could be life-saving.” To read the full story, https://ow.ly/BqR550TA3yj #breastcancerawarenessmonth

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. ?? Did you know 25% of people with cancer report experiencing significant body image disturbance? For people with breast cancer, surgical treatments can alter your sense of body image, through scarring, breast sensitivity, bodily function, and disfigurement. Treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation can also worsen menopausal symptoms, cognition, and fatigue. Wellspring hosted a talk about restoring body image after cancer where Dr. Mary Jane Esplen discusses how all people with cancer, regardless of tumor site, stage or treatment, undergo a process of body image adaptation. Did you know that breast ultrasound is a crucial adjunct to mammography in breast density? For women with dense breast tissue, mammography alone may not be sufficient for detecting breast cancer. Breast ultrasound can help detect abnormalities that may be missed on a mammogram. It is also a safe and non-invasive procedure that can be done alongside mammography. By adding breast ultrasound to your breast cancer screening, you can increase the chances of detecting breast cancer early and improve treatment outcomes. Talk to your doctor about the benefits of breast ultrasound as an adjunct to mammography in breast density. ?? #breastultrasound #mammography #breastdensity #earlydetection #breastcancerawareness

Annual 3D mammography is clinically proven to detect breast cancer early and save more lives and is Charlotte Radiology’s standard of care for all patients. For some women, supplemental imaging may also be beneficial to help further capture and characterize changes in breast tissue over time. Women who meet certain criteria — like having dense breasts or other risk factors for breast cancer — may elect to get a screening breast ultrasound (SBU) in addition to 3D mammography.
