?? Don't miss the next WEBINARiQ live event! Join us on Wednesday, October 2 at 2 PM ET for "Prebriefing: Linking Knowledge to Nursing Practice," presented by Meghan Liebzeit, PhD, RN, CPN, Assistant Professor, Simulation Educator, and NLN Jonas Scholar 2022-23, Bellin College. Click here! https://hubs.li/Q02QB7jl0 Overview: Prebriefing is known as the introductory phase in nursing simulation recognized as a key factor in students learning experience, however, the practice of prebriefing varies widely related to structured components and elements, making it difficult to understand what methods best prepare students for the simulation scenario. Understanding factors regarding pedagogical aspects of the different structures and elements of prebriefing’s contribution to the simulation experience, may provide scaffolding for prebriefing design. Results from a hermeneutic phenomenological approach to explore students prebriefing experience during a novel, pedagogically sound, eight-week senior simulation clinical course and the themes revealed will be discussed. ?? ??While a high GPA can be beneficial, it's certainly not the only factor that CRNA schools consider during their application process. Here are a few tips on how to overcome a low GPA when applying to CRNA programs: Tip 1: Gain Relevant Experience Focus on acquiring substantial clinical experience, particularly in critical care settings. This hands-on experience can demonstrate your practical skills ?? and commitment to the field. Work in high-acuity intensive care units (ICUs). The insight and skills you gain in these environments can significantly strengthen your application, showcasing your ability to thrive in challenging medical situations. Tip 2: Obtain Strong Recommendations Seek out recommendations from professionals who can vouch for your clinical abilities, work ethic, and dedication to the field of anesthesia. These could be supervisors, experienced CRNAs, or respected physicians ?? you’ve worked with (be sure they meet your programs' requirements!) A strong letter of recommendation can provide a powerful testament to your capabilities and character, helping to offset a lower GPA by highlighting your strengths and potential. Tip 3: Excel in Other Academic Areas Consider taking additional coursework ?? or certifications that can bolster your academic profile. Enroll in advanced science courses, anesthesia-related classes, or relevant certifications. Excelling in these areas can demonstrate your ability to succeed academically and your commitment to ongoing professional development. Don't hesitate to check with the program(s) you're interested in to see if they have preferences or insights for you! ?? Feeling like you’ve done everything to stand out for CRNA school? Think again! Here are 3 unexpected ways to elevate your application and stand out from the competition: 1?? Get Plugged Into the CRNA Community: One of the best ways to stand out is by building connections with people in the anesthesia world. Attend state association meetings or national AANA conferences. These events give you the chance to meet CRNA program faculty, network with CRNAs, and connect with SRNAs who are already living your dream. Not only will this help you gain insights into the profession, but it also shows admissions committees that you’re deeply committed to becoming part of the CRNA community. 2?? Contribute to Research at Your Facility: Getting involved in research demonstrates critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and a proactive attitude—qualities every CRNA program values. Reach out to your Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or an attending physician and ask how you can assist with their research projects. Whether it’s helping with data collection or contributing to a publication, this experience will strengthen your application and set you apart. 3?? Take Extra Courses That Add Value to Your Resume: Stand out academically by completing courses like “Writing in the Sciences” offered by Stanford University on Coursera. It’s free, provides a certification upon completion, and enhances your ability to write and communicate effectively—an essential skill for CRNAs. Plus, admissions committees love to see applicants who go above and beyond to develop their academic skills. ?? Pro Tip: Join our FREE ICU Dreaming About Anesthesia community! It’s packed with resources, group Q&As, and insider events designed to help you prepare for CRNA school and navigate the application process like a pro. Don’t miss out—join today at https://lnkd.in/eKyDtqrQ ??? ? Your future as a CRNA is closer than you think. Take these extra steps, invest in yourself, and let’s make your dream a reality. ??
