I'd be careful to write off competitor campaigns too quickly. In some cases, they are a terrible investment and do not drive qualified pipeline. However, most companies need to vet several solutions before making their choice, so why not let them know how you are different? I had my team pull some data on a client we work with that runs many competitor campaigns. Here's where things are right now: - Spent: $11,807 - Qualified Opps: 5 - ACV: $~15,000 - Pipeline: $75,000 - Close Rate: ~25% - Revenue: $18,750 - CAC Payback: 7.56 months - ROI: 158% ---- Note: There is a 1-2 week lag after conversion so there could be additional opportunities created 2 weeks from today. ----- If you are running or thinking about running a competitor campaign, make sure to use keywords that focus on people comparing you to one of your competitors vs. their brand name in isolation. Also, make sure you negate "{competitor} Log-in"; don't want to waste $$$ there. - {competitor} alternatives - {competitor} pricing - {competitor} competitors - {competitor} reviews - {competitor} vs. - {competitor} pros and cons - {competitor} features - switch from {competitor} - {competitor} substitute Lastly, if you really want to improve the amount of qualified pipeline generated from competitor campaigns, focus on awareness channels like LinkedIn and Meta so they already know who you are, what you do, and how you are different. Google will take the credit for the final conversion, but if you look at the customer full customer journey, you'll see that it was just the last point of conversion in many cases. TL;DR ALWAYS scrutinize the data but be careful to let past experiences determine all future ones.
