I suppose it's only a matter of time before our betters jump on this bandwagon. If we don't ban, we tax and when we tax we become so addicted to the revenue that we can't afford to ban so we keep raising the tax and say that's actually leading to a voluntary banning. Meanwhile directly impacting the lower socio-economic classes, i.e. the lessers. Sometimes I feel that the lessers don't appreciated the multitudinous benefits that the betters have bestowed on us by targeting and restricting areas of self harm like, alcohol, tobacco, entertainment and food, not to mention "roughhousing" on sporting fields, high fiving lollipop men/ladies and playing without appropriate safety gear. As a child we were warned not to run with a sharp object less we lost an eye. Sadly it was only when we turned up to school we witnessed the multitude of omni-eyed children who didn't listen to the betters. Actually if it wasn't for restrictions on personal freedom the lessers shouldn't normally concern themselves with cancelling beer glass badging, as it'll soon be too expensive to drink in a pub anyway. But if the betters feel that they can protect us even more, I'm tipping a new government service/department will be employed to investigate!!?????? We as a country saved billions on healthcare by improving the lessers lifestyle. We, as a nation have "made" billions by taxing the lessers lifestyle. Yet I'm tipping very little gratitude!!?????? To be fair Scotland's betters are, "pretty shite" even compared to ours and they do boast the highest deaths per capita from alcohol, drugs and food. Short term cost-cutting in one part of the budget turns up as longer term, larger costs somewhere else. In the case of health, ignoring and slashing prevention creates multiplied cost blowouts in hospitals. The government must know this but performative politics obviously wins out.

To all the people talking about the categorization of GST% on popcorn: They should understand that it's not about the categorization of popcorn or any such product, but about the categorization of the lifestyle people choose for themselves. There are popcorn packets available in the market for as little as ?10. If you still choose to buy a ?500 box of popcorn, you can also afford to pay 18% GST on it. (which will indirectly go to the needy people in the form of government-provided facilities like basic food or medical aid. Today's DRUM: How to Waste Money We have spoken out often about these interminable ground breakings. And government departments having pointless MoU signings with each other. Now add to the list the “small but meaningful” handover ceremonies every time a new minister is appointed -with 40 of them it can be a fairly regularly occurrence. Imagine the cost for sandwiches, drinkies, the ubiquitous huge black forest cake and the farewell gift. The cost just compounds if you add in the working hours lost while a bored staff clap hands for the incoming and outgoing Minister. Just another example of burning through money we don’t have. PVG fee waiver for volunteers supporting 'Qualifying Voluntary Organisations' to continue as revised scheme progresses to launch from 1st April. Qualifying Voluntary Organisations defined as "The organisation must be not for profit to qualify, such as a charity. It must not be: a school, college or university, a public authority or local council managed by a public authority, or local council". I attended a useful online session last week to get up-to-speed with what we know so far, as the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 comes into force.
