???? ?????? ?????????????????? ???????? TechBBQ This week, I attended one of the highlights of the year for many founders, investors and startup ecosystem supporters: The TechBBQ in Copenhagen. The 2-day event was packed with great pitches, debates, talks and lots of opportunity to mingle. All in the name of entrepreneurship and innovation. ???????? ?????? ???????? ???? ???? ?????????????????? ???????? ?????? ??????????: (?????????? ?????? ???? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????????? ????????????) ???????? ?????????? ???????? ?????????? ????????: Arriving an hour prior to my first meeting at 10:00 meant that I had sufficient time for getting my ticket and walk around and visit some of the startup stalls before it got too crowded. ?? ?????????????? & ???????? ???????????????? ???? ??????????????: I had been advised to use the Brella app and book meetings in advance (thanks S?ren Spanner Bach ). This meant I already had 17 meeting prebooked with people I knew I wanted to meet. ??? ?????????? ???????? ?????? ???????????????? ????????????????: With 5 stages of speakers, you are spoiled for choice! I had spent time looking through the program and blocked time in the calendar for the events I wanted to priorities over meetings. ?? ???????????????????? ?????????????????????? ??????????: I'm normally a high-heal kind of person, but luckily I had decided to be sensible and brought practical shoes. That ended up being a good decision as all my meetings were standing, so I was almost on my feet for 11h. Also, bring a jumper/suit jacket as temperatures swing a lot. ?? ?????????? ????????????: There are drinks and lunch to buy, but with only 5 min. between each meeting (which was often consumed with prolonged meetings) I had very limited time to refuel between the meetings. I had luckily brought a protein bar and some nuts from home. This was a life savior. Also bring a water bottle you can refill at biobreaks. In the end, I had more than 20 meetings. My brain was tired, my voice was almost non-existent, but my heart was full. It was a very well organized event, with lots of inspiration for founders and great atmosphere. I personally really enjoyed seeing many familiar faces, and look forward to follow up on all my interesting dialogues. Did you visit the TechBBQ this year, and what was your favorite part?

There are two things I love about attending tech events: the energy and the networking opportunities. But my journey to London Tech Week and the Scotch & Pitches event organised by Foras was anything but smooth. I was super excited to attend, but I almost got lost on my way to the venue. Therefore, I had to rely on my phone's Google Maps, which decided to act up at the worst possible time. When I finally arrived, I couldn't find my name on the registration list. But after a few tense moments, I realised I had registered under a different email. Therefore, I got in just in time for the pitches. The event was buzzing with energy and excitement, but what really stood out were the different pitching styles. Some startups were very technical, therefore focusing on data and metrics. But then, the founder of Generalist World, Milly Tamati took the stage and told an incredible story about her childhood. She shared how people always told her she couldn't be a generalist and be knowledgeable in different areas, therefore inspiring her to start her business. Her story resonated with me because I consider myself a generalist too. But it wasn't just her; many other founders like Janani Prabhakaran, Angela Prentner-Smith (FRSA), Eilidh Mutch used storytelling to connect with the investors, therefore making their pitches memorable. The Foras team Dec McLaughlin, Caro Melendez ?? Turing Fest / Slush, known for their work in supporting Scottish startups, outdid themselves with this event. But their dedication to fostering innovation was clear throughout. Therefore, it's no wonder they attracted such a diverse and talented group of founders and investors. Despite the initial hiccups, attending Scotch & Pitches was an inspiring experience. The energy, the innovative ideas, and the powerful stories made it all worthwhile. But wait a minute, I didn’t see Lawal O. and the Econome team at the event. I wonder why? It was great catching up with Calum Purdie and Beena Sharma at the event. Tag someone who was at the event. Still buzzing from SXSW 2024! Austin, our vibrant city, was the epicenter of electrifying innovation, creativity, and collaboration. As a startup founder and Austinite, I was front and center absorbing every moment. The city was pulsating with fresh ideas, impassioned innovators, and exhilarating conversations. Panel discussions lit up rooms and startup pitches sparked excitement. Each day dished up a banquet of enlightenment. What's truly remarkable at SXSW? The meeting of minds, the fusion of ideas, the spirit of collaboration. These are not just momentary sparks at a festival - this is the DNA of SXSW, and what I relish taking back to my daily grind. As we unwind post-event, let's use the insights gained to shape our forward path. SXSW 2025 is on the horizon and I can already feel the surge of fresh inspiration it promises to usher in. When I returned to #Winnipeg, I was looking for ways to meet new people and get involved in the tech scene. That's how I met Robert at a local event, and he introduced me to Tech Thursday. Looking back, it's incredible to see how far Tech4Growth launched by EPFL Innovation Park has come. What began in 2018 as a series of small workshops for start-up founders and corporate executives has become a national event. Initially, these workshops were all about personal connections—sharing best practices and learning from each other's experiences in a relaxed setting. Lan Zuo Gillet?from?EPFL Innovation Park, with the support of?Raphael Rollier?from?Federal Office of Topography swisstopo,?Nicolas Loeillot?from?CSS?and?Massimo Lucchina?from?Amazon Web Services (AWS), set the vision: to create a space where stakeholders from different worlds could meet and collaborate. Fast forward to today, and Tech4Growth is no longer just a workshop series. Well, well, well (and alright, alright alright) wouldn't you know it is already another Wednesday and here we are with the Boston New Technology (BNT) Roundup of events happening in and around the BNT ecosystem...and there is, suffice it to say, a lot happening. Tomorrow alone brings me back to pre-COVID startup times when we all had to make decisions on what of the 7 or 8 different events we were going to attend -- and as Jason Kraus can attest, some of us (that's me, Phil Kasiecki knows as well) tried to go to them all. I wouldn't recommend it haha. That said let's dive right into things and first get you updated on what BNT is doing over the next few weeks. 1.) Precision Pitch Practice is officially back on November 7th, with the latest upgrade to the program currently underway. 2.) Tomorrow you can join Philip Tellis over at Akamai Technologies for BNT's first Web Performance event under his leadership --- lots will be learned, and pizza will be served (event link in the comments). 3.) One of my absolute favourite BNT sessions, our Town Hall series, is back on the 30th. This one is super important as we'll be talking the "drydock period" in November that'll take us through January, and we'll be looking forward to hearing from the community on what's most urgent and interesting out there. Now for the big news that I have been trying to keep under wraps for as long as possible. BNT has a new ecosystem partner which Prepare 4 VC has enjoyed for a while -- led by the incomparable Edith Wangare Njage, MSc and her team of incredible professionals, Arielle for Africa LTD and BNT have something truly special to share with everyone that is happening November 13th -- The Abundance Showcase (otherwise known as The Abundance Summit), a one hour event starting at 10:00AM EST/18:00 EAT which features: 10 fantastical ventures -- 5 from the Arielle For Africa Network and 5 from BNT, handpicked to showcase impact and demonstrate the resiliency and opportunity of our markets now in mutual collaboration. Born Global Community's Boston Chapter is also getting in on the action. I want to thank folks like Marisa Nieves, Victoria Yampolsky, Irina Sychov and others who are already helping by spreading the word and contributing valuable insights. This event, while virtual, will accomplish connecting and contributing with value in a way that really fulfills the whole mission of BNT, period. In the days ahead we'll be spotlighting some of the founders, teasing you with more information about what to expect, and simply celebrating the fact that we're doing something with folks who are all about inclusion, inspiration, education, and empowerment as well. I feel the same about Goldcast and am shouting out Shivika Mishra and team as always -- since it only took me about an hour to put the entire event together....that is unreal.
