Last summer, the DoE warned that two-thirds of the US was at risk of losing power.?As we head into warmer months, record temps are all but guaranteed. Fortunately, there's a fix for homeowners who want to stay powered through the heat. Think about this... PG&E rates have soared consistently well over the last decade. And it’s not just homeowners feeling the squeeze. Businesses across California are grappling with these rising costs, with no signs of slowing down. Why is this happening? Well, it's a combination of infrastructure investments, storm damage repairs, and wildfire prevention costs. It’s a necessary reality, but one that’s creating a burden on every electricity bill. What does this mean for you? For some, it’s a hit to the bottom line; for others, it’s a wake-up call to explore alternatives. Solar isn’t just an option; it's a way to reclaim control, stabilize expenses, and create long-term savings. This isn’t just a moment for homeowners or businesses to pause and consider solar; it’s about understanding the changing landscape of our energy market.

Storms and heat waves drive urgency for utilities to fund grid resilience projects, but often those costs fall on homeowners in the form of more charges on their bills. Over time, this can threaten affordability of homeownership. #getquoll #quollintelligence #climaterisk #climatechangeadaptation #financialprotection https://lnkd.in/eZvqmT5G

Consumers are continuing to pay more for less, as evidenced by PG&E’s repeated rate hikes. In 2024 alone, these hikes are costing the average family an additional $33/month, with indications of more increases on the horizon. This rise in the cost of utilities comes with no added benefit and places a clear burden on consumers' wallets. The power industry of the future should transform investment risk into the hands of the private sector rather than on the backs of consumers. By prioritizing competition, low-cost #energy sources, decentralized #renewable generation, and reliable service can thrive. Unlock Savings on PG&E Bills! New Englanders are installing heat pumps in record numbers. But how do rebate programs ensure low-income households don’t get left behind? HVAC Informed reports some great ideas here: “A strategic neighborhood-based approach to transitioning off gas, in partnership with community-based organizations, can deliver even more savings by avoiding gas pipeline repair and replacement costs.” And this one: “Perhaps the best approach for supporting the transition to electric heat pumps while protecting financially vulnerable households is to simply cap electric bills for low-income households outright through policies like percentage of income payment programs while also providing energy-saving home efficiency retrofits.” Bottom line: The clean energy transition can’t leave behind the folks who would benefit from it the most. It’s going to take bold action to do this and do it right. https://bit.ly/49oVhPQ

"Perhaps the best approach for supporting the transition to electric heat pumps while protecting financially vulnerable households is to simply cap electric bills for low-income households outright through policy..." The New York HEAT Act would achieve just this, reducing utility bills by ending gas subsidies and capping utility bills for low- and middle-income New Yorkers at 6% of income! This is the road to fully fund and implement New York's landmark Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) from 2019. How do we generate 70% of our electricity from renewable energy by 2030? How do we ensure that at least 35% of benefits are directed to disadvantaged communities? We need to put policy in place that will shift the current systems to achieve the CLCPA Mandates. The CLCPA Charted the path, and now it’s policies like the NY HEAT Act, the Climate Superfund Act, and the Just Energy Transition Act, that will support us in the decarbonizing transition and protect the most vulnerable to climate change.

Do you want a money making machine? Going solar allows homeowners to lock in a fixed monthly payment for their electricity that isn't subject to inflation or utility rate hikes. You essentially get to install a money making machine on your home. For every dollar that you put in, you receive two or three dollars in return. Comment if you have solar on your home!

Ensuring an Equitable Heat Pump Transition - Where Current Programs Fall Short This analysis of heat pump incentives reveals a hard truth - current programs overwhelmingly fail vulnerable households, ignoring equity in the rush to electrify. Despite ambitious state targets, subsidies still scarcely reach low-income homes still using gas. Worse still, policies perversely exclude these families - claiming concern over bill spikes from swapping out furnaces. Yet study after study shows efficiency upgrades prevent rate increases while future-proofing homes. So again, people lose out on the process - because while gas eventually leaves the system, its legacy cannot be stranded assets and spiraling bills for marginalized communities. The blueprint for uplifting these families exists - pairing equity-first community programs with efficiency and solar so savings start on day one. The message for policymakers is clear: do not pass the buck on to those already overburdened. Make the renewable future affordable and accessible for all by leading with justice. The technology to navigate this transition equitably is here - only the political will lags behind. But if heat pumps improve lives as they decarbonize, the momentum will be unstoppable. #Electrification #Equity #ClimateJustice #Efficiency https://lnkd.in/giaJkqa9
