I'm excited to share that I recently completed a summer internship with ???????????? (?????????????????? ???????????????????? ?????????????? ???? ????????????????, ??????????????????, ?????? ?????????? ????????????????????) at the University of Leeds. I had the privilege of contributing to the project “?????????????????????????? ?????? ?????????????????? ???????? ?????? ?????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???? ???????????????? ???? ?????????????????? ????????????????????”. This initiative focuses on understanding local community priorities and establishing principles for fair and equitable collaborations between the university and the community.
During my internship, I conducted a qualitative study titled “?????????????????? ???????? ?????????????????? ???? ?????????????????? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????????????????????????? ?????????? ????????????????????.” This involved reaching out and conducting interviews with university and community representatives to delve deeply into the dynamics, best practices, and challenges of university-community collaborations. I analyzed the collected data alongside secondary data and generated recommendations, creating a roadmap for CENTRE's next steps in establishing ethical and fair partnership principles.
My internship concluded with a presentation of my findings to the team, along with a comprehensive report. The report not only offered actionable recommendations and next steps but also included reflection questions to encourage critical and mindful consideration of the work involved in community engagement.
I'm thrilled that the team provided positive feedback, stating that the report exceeded expectations! I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Professor Sonia Kumar, Steve Gleadall , Amanda Jackson , Boróka Jávor?and Raul D. for their hard work, passion, and support which made my success in this project possible.
This internship was undoubtedly a highlight of my university journey. I learned so much from the CENTRE team's expertise and gained a deeper understanding of the local communities in Leeds. It was fascinating to discover the ongoing projects in the city and to connect with the community on a meaningful level.
This experience also made me reflect on the role of the university—not just as an academic institution, but as a civic one. It’s important to consider the psychological barriers that community members might feel between themselves and the university, despite it being a public and open space. As someone fortunate enough to receive higher education, I believe it is my responsibility to help break down these barriers and contribute to improving the lives of those less fortunate.
