EXCELLENCE = EVIDENCE + EXPERIENCE I had the chance to participate in a face-to-face lecture with Dr. Carles Pedret MD, PhD about "The Importance of Re-injuries" (Muscle Injuries). It is always illuminating to listen to such an expert. I find his work very advanced and practical, as it provides answers or, at least, interpretations and methods to the questions sports medicine doctors have. This time, what I can highlight in my notes in bullet points: - We do not treat, we manage. We have to respect the BIOLOGY. - To manage the return to play (Prognosis), we need to make the PERFECT DIAGNOSIS. #NoDiagnosisNoParty. - We should consider creating a specific classification for each muscle group injury. - Analyzing edema patterns after muscle injuries could be useful to guide the return-to-play process. https://lnkd.in/dR2bKd7K Thanks again Carles Pedret MD, PhD, Isokinetic Medical Group, Francesco Della Villa MD. From microscopic to macroscopic sports injuries. Applying the complex dynamic systems approach to sports medicine and thinking in Micro, meso and macro terms when analyzing MSK problems, from the point of development to the process of delivering care. The ability to merge minute details with global contextual factors is an indicator of evolved expertise. This, perhaps, is the poorly documented and poorly understood point of clinical experience and clinical expertise. Systems thinking and appreciating complexity.

Associations between growth, maturation, and injury in youth athletes. Interesting new scoping review from Gemma Parry and colleagues recently published in British Journal of Sports Medicine. The review found that injury incidence and burden tend to increase with advancing maturity status. Specifically, injuries related to growth spurts, such as apophyseal and osteochondrosis injuries, peak during the adolescent growth phase (circa-peak height velocity).
